India

The first contest was staged in Jaipur on Wednesday and India won it by 5 wickets.

India won the toss and opted to bowl first and although New Zealand were going well at 110/1 in the thirteenth over their innings finished on 164/6. Ashwin (2/23) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2/24) were the pick of the Indian bowlers.

Man of the Match Suryakumar Yadav top scored in the chase with 62 and skipper Rohit Sharma made 48 to help India over the line with just 2 balls to spare. India hit 6 maximums in their innings.

A reminder that Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja are all rested for this series and this was how India lined up on Wednesday.

Rohit Sharma (c), KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (wk), Venkatesh Iyer, Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Deepak Chahar, Mohammed Siraj

New Zealand

Given they had lost the T20 World Cup final to Pakistan just last Sunday and were also missing Kane Williamson it was a tall order for New Zealand to bounce back with such a quick turnaround. However Martin Guptill hit 70 and Chapman made 63 in the series opener and NZ also cleared the ropes 6 times.Trent Boult was leading wicket taker with figures of 2/31 and Mitch Santner (1/19) Lockie Ferguson (0/24) were economical.

This was how New Zealand lined up on Wednesday.

Martin Guptill, Daryl Mitchell, Mark Chapman, Glenn Phillips, Tim Seifert (wk), Rachin Ravindra, Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee (c), Todd Astle, Lockie Ferguson, Trent Boult

Head to Head

Overall the teams have met 18 times with India winning 7 to New Zealand's 9 and 2 ties

In the recent T20 World Cup Super 12's on 31st October India managed to score just 110/7 with Jadeja's 26 not out the top score. New Zealand crashed off the

chase in 14.3 overs for an 8 wicket victory, Daryl Mitchell top scored with 49 and Sodhi (2/17) was Man of the Match.

The Betting

India are currently trading at around 1 / 3 to win the game and New Zealand can be backed at around 47/20

KL Rahul is 9/4 favourite to top score for India, Guptill is 11/4 favourite to do likewise for NZ.

India are 8/13 to hit the most sixes with New Zealand at 17/10 and a tie at 15/2

The Verdict

With the series opener taking all bar 2 balls of the chase to be settled you could argue the match result odds look pretty skewed but I will look to the exotics for a bet.

Mitch Santner impressed on Wednesday and gets the vote to be top NZ bowler. Elsewhere Rishabh Pant is my specualtive choice to be Man of the Match.

Bets: Top NZ Wicket Taker Mitch Santner at 7/2

Man of the Match Rishabh Pant at 11/1
