The first of three one day internationals between India and South Africa takes place in Lucknow on Thursday and we take a look at the squads, recent form and the all important betting.

Recent Form
In July and August this year India completed 3-0 clean sweeps away to Zimbabwe and West Indies. Prior to that they were 2-1 winners in England and they have won 11 and lost 1 of their last 12 ODI's.
Since beating India 3-0 at the start of 2022 South Africa went on to lose 2-1 at home to Bangladesh. Their most recent ODI action came away to England in July, they won the series opener by 62 runs, lost the second contest by 118 runs and what would have been the decider was washed out.

Overall the teams have met 87 times with India winning 35 to South Africa's 49 with 3 no results
The most recent series came in South Africa in January this year and the Proteas completed a 3-0 clean sweep.

The Verdict
Whilst India have changed things around the Proteas have stuck with the vast majority of the T20 squad, opting to give the players extra practice ahead of the World T20 albeit in a different format. That would explain why the Proteas are favourites but we will go with a top bat pick for each side.
Shreyas Iyer gets the vote for India and Janneman Malan for the Proteas.
