Mumbai Indians host Kolkata Knight Riders in Match 56 of the IPL on Sunday, the final game of the regular season and KKR are still in with a shout of joining the home side in the play offs.

Mumbai Indians sealed their play off spot with victory at home to the Sunrisers on Thursday, a game which was decided by a Super Over. Quinton de Kock top scored for Mumbai with an unbeaten 69 in their bat first total of 162/5. Manish Pandey was the backbone of the Sunrisers chase with 71 not out including a six off the last ball of the innings to tie the scores. The Sunrisers managed just 8 runs in losing 2 wickets in their Super Over and Mumbai needed just 3 balls to claim the win that sent them through to the play offs with Delhi and Chennai.
The target for Mumbai now is to finish in the top 2 which would give them 2 bites at the cherry to reach the final so they will be keen to see how Delhi Capitals get on in their match against the Royals a day before this game takes place. Mumbai now have a record of 8 wins and 5 defeats and at home they have won 4 and lost 2.
Kolkata Knight Riders
The Knight Riders were involved in a do or die clash away to the Kings XI on Friday and they came home by 7 wickets. KXP posted 183/6 batting first with Sam Curran top scoring with 55 not out. KKR wasted no time in setting about the chase. Lynn (46) and Gill (65) had them in complete command and they got up with a full 2 overs to spare.
That was a second successive win for KKR who had previously snapped a 6 match losing streak in the first meeting with Mumbai last weekend and their overall record comprises of 6 wins and 7 defeats. KKR will also be monitoring the results on Saturday as the outcome of those games will dictate what they need to do in order to reach the play offs.

The teams met as recently as Match 47 in Kolakata and KKR came out on top by 34 runs. Shubman Gill (76) and Andre Russell (80 not out off 40 balls) were chief destroyers in KKR’s bat first total of 232/2. Mumbai lost early wickets in the chase but we did witness an extraordinary knock of 91 off 34 balls from Hardik Pandya which proved to be in vain.
