nztestmatchThe second test match between New Zealand and Bangladesh gets underway in Wellington as Thursday night turns into Friday morning and in the first test the Black Caps looked more than a class above their visitors.

The first test was staged in Hamilton and New Zealand only needed to bat once to win it. The Black caps opted to bowl first after winning the toss and although Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal made 126, none of his team mates made it into the 30’s. Neil Wagner took 5 wickets and Tim Southee 3 as Bangladesh were bowled out for 234 in less than 60 overs.

New Zealand’s reply saw the top order take the game away from Bangladesh. Jeet Raval (132) and Tom Latham (161) put on 254 for the first wicket. Kane Williamson came in at 3 and made 200 and upon reaching that milestone he declared the innings on 715/6.

Bangladesh did show plenty of spirit in their second knock. Iqbal made 74 and Sarkar (149) and Mamadullah (146) threatened to take the game into a fourth innings. It wasn’t to be and the visitors were all 429. The victory margin clocked in at an innings and 52 runs with Trent Boult taking 5 wickets in the second innings.

Kane Williamson was named Man of the Match and New Zealand are 1-0 up with 2 to play.

Verdict:

Reports suggest this wicket tends to flatten out as the game wears on and if so we could see plenty of runs in the middle days of the test. Tom Latham is in form and he gets the vote to make another century in either of the home sides innings.
