rcb2019The second of Saturday’s IPL games sees the Royal Challengers Bangalore wrap up a disappointing campaign at home to the play off seeking Sunrisers Hyderabad in Match 54.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

No result was possible in RCB’s most recent match at home to Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday, an outcome that ended any hopes of sneaking into the play offs. The damage was done in the first 6 matches, all of which ended in defeat. We have seen some magic from Kohli and especially Ab De Villiers but as it stands RCB are bottom of the log with a record of 4 wins, 8 defeats and the 1 no result.

In Bangalore the Royal Challengers have won 2 and lost 3 of the completed matches with the victories coming against Kings XI (17 runs) and the Super Kings (1 run)

Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The Sunrisers were in action away to Mumbai Indians on Thursday and they lost a thrilling game which was decided by a Super Over. Batting first Quinton de Kock top scored for Mumbai with an unbeaten 69 in their bat first total of 162/5. Manish Pandey was the backbone of the Sunrisers chase with 71 not out including a six off the last ball of the innings to tie the scores.

The Sunrisers managed just 8 runs in losing 2 wickets in their Super Over and Mumbai needed just 3 balls to claim the win that sent them through to the play offs with Delhi and Chennai.

The Sunrisers hopes of claiming the remaining place now hang in the balance. They have now won 6 and lost7 of their matches and they are likely to need a victory here to stay in contention. Depending on how other results go over the course of this final weekend of the regular season net run rate could also be a factor.

The Sunrisers away record would have to be a concern as it comprises of 1 win alongside 5 defeats.

Head to Head

Matches 13, Sunrisers wins 7, RCB wins 5 plus 1 tie (Sunrisers won Super Over)

The first meeting this season came in Hyderabad in Match 11 and it proved to be a one sided contest with the Sunrisers winning by a massive 118 run margin. Sunrisers openers Bairstow and Warner, who have subsequently left the tournament for international duty, both scored centuries in a bat first total of 231/2. RCB had to go for it from the start but they found early trouble, never recovered and were bowled out for 113 (Nabi 4/11).

Betting Angle

The greater incentive for victory rests with the Sunrisers but RCB will want to out on a show for their fans so this looks a tricky game to call.

AB de Villiers has generally been in good form for RCB and we side with him to clear the ropes at least twice.

Bet: Batsman Total Match Sixes, AB de Villiers over 1.5 at even money
