The Momentum One Day Cup gets underway on Saturday with a clash between two fancied sides as the Titans take on the Hollywoodbets Dolphins in a Pool A clash at Potchefstroom
This season's tournament will be staged entirily in a Potchefstroom covid secure environment and we have two pools of three sides taking each other on twice with the top 2 in each pool contesting the semi finals.
Pool B is home for the Cobras, Lions and Warriors with their matches are slated to start on 29th January so the focus right now is on Pool A where we will see the Titans, Dolphins and Knights.
Titans
The Titans lost the MODC crown to the Dolphins last season. The tournament was declared over after the round robin stage which saw the Titans finish in a disappointing ffith place with a record of 4 wins and 6 defeats.
At the time of writing team news from the Titans camp was thin on the ground. They have a number of big names including Quinton de Kock, Dean Elgar, Aiden Markram and Faf du Plessis that were involved with the Proteas recently so presumably won't be involved here. They still have plenty of quality and Theunis de Bruyn has been skippering the 4-day side. Kyle Abbott also joined the Titans ranks this week.
Dolphins
The Hollywoodbets Dolphins are the holders of the domestic 50 over trophy. They finished the group stage last season at the top of the log with 7 wins and 3 defeats and they beat the Titans in both meetings.
For the start of this tournament the Dolphins will be without their Proteas contingent of Keshav Maharaj, Keagan Petersen and Sarel Erwee but the headline names in the squad include David Miller, Robbie Frylinck, Khaya Zondo and Andile Phehlukwayo whilst Prenelan Subrayen has been named as skipper.

The Verdict:
There is a good mix of youth and experience in the Dolphins squad and they had the wood over the Titans twice last season.
I'd rather see how these early matches go before getting involved financially but if pushed for a pick here I would just about favour the title holders.
