The final action in the European Championships on Sunday comes from Amsterdam where Group C favourites the Netherlands begin their campaign against Ukraine

In qualifying for these finals Netherlands finished as runners up to Germany, just 2 points in arrears. Northern Ireland were third and Belarus and Estonia never got in a blow. The Netherlands won 6, drew 1 and lost 1 of their matches, they were beaten at home by Germany but did win the return and with the exception of a 0-0 draw in Northern Ireland all their matches went over 2.5 goals and at least 4 goals were scored in 6 of those games.
Netherlands World Cup 2022 qualifying campaign started badly with a 4-2 defeat in Turkey and 2 subsequent matches delivered a 2-0 home win over Latvia and 7-0 victory over Gibraltar.
In a couple of recent warm ups the Netherlands drew 2-2 with Scotland and they beat Georgia 3-0.

Ukraine
Ukraine finished top of their qualification group, unbeaten with 6 wins and 2 draws. They finished 3 points clear of Portugal with Serbia a further 3 points back and Luxembourg and Lithuania were the also rans. They took 4 points off Portugal, drawing 0-0 away and winning 2-1 at home and a 5-0 home win over Serbia is another stand out result.
World Cup 2022 qualifying started with an excellent 1-1 draw away to France but they were subsequently held to 1-1 draws at home to Finland and Kazakhstan.
The most notable recent friendly matches saw Ukraine beat Northern Ireland (1-0) and Cyprus (4-0)

The Verdict:
Recent form for both sides suggests they have questions to answer but they both impressed in qualifying. The Dutch had the services of Virgil van Dijk in those group matches and if Ukraine can recapture the sort of form that got them here, we might well see goals for both sides.
