Race 1

This is the first juvenile race of the season in the Western Cape and the betting market will be the best guide. SPARE is a son of What A Winter from the Justin Snaith yard with Grant van Niekerk in the saddle. He is related to multiple winners including Duke Of Sussex and Future Prince. If not in need of the run, he can start his career on a positive note.

VIHAAN’S WEB hails from the Gareth van Zyl stable and gets the services of Athandiwe Mgudlwa. He is related to multiple winners including Vandah’s Spirit and Mousey On Over. If not too green, he should give a good account of himself.

BJORN IRONSIDE is a son of Gimmethegreenlight from the Johan Janse van Vuuren yard with Aldo Domeyer in the irons. He is related to two-time winner Robert Burns. If not in need of this outing, he should run a positive race.

Race 2

GOLDEN HOSTESS was super-impressive when winning the Grade 3 Hollywoodbets Diana Stakes last time. She quickened up well at the 300m mark and won with a ton in hand. Despite carrying top weight, she should be too good for this field.

GIMME A SHOT was not beaten far in the Grade 2 Betway Joburg Spring F & M Challenge last time. She took the lead at the 200m mark, but was outrun late. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She will strip much fitter and if suited to the left-hand turn, she should be one of the leading contenders.

ROYALS was her own worst enemy in the Grade 2 Western Cape Fillies Championship last time as she over raced in the early stages. She is the best weighted runner in this contest and if seeing out the mile, she should run a big race.

Race 3

KATSU ran on well when winning his last start over 2000m at Hollywoodbets Durbanville. He received a two-pound penalty for that victory. He has cracked a good draw of two and if repeating that effort, he should be the one to beat.

SHAVOUT is better than his last start over 1600m at Hollywoodbets Durbanville. He finished 0.3 lengths behind BARDOLINO in his penultimate run. He is 2kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He is likely to race on the speed and may be hard to peg back.

WILLIE JOHN ran on powerfully when winning his maiden at the third time of asking over this distance. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He does take on stronger, but has plenty of scope and should be up to the task at hand.

Race 4

CHARLIE CROKER should have won his last start over this distance at Hollywoodbets Durbanville as he had no luck up the straight. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. He has won twice and finished second four times from as many starts over this C&D. He jumps from a good draw of four and if all goes according to plan, he can return to winning ways.

STEINBECK has decent recent form lines to his name. He was squeezed leaving the start last time, but finished off his race nicely. He jumps from a good draw of three and if getting a clean start, he should pose a massive threat.

TEFLON MAN ran on strongly when winning his last start over 1250m at Hollywoodbets Durbanville. He takes a rise in class, but is in a good space and should be up to the task at hand.

Race 5

COASTAL COMMANDER is better than his last start in the Non-Black Type Cape Racing Sales The Ready To Run Stakes. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He has finished second in both his efforts over this C&D. Richard Fourie is booked to ride and he may be hard to peg back.

BIG UNIT has shown good improvement in each of his outings and he won a good race over 1250m last time. He does take on stronger, but has scope and is the stable elect with Luyolo Mxothwa in the saddle. He should give a good account of himself.

WINTER PEARL won a good race in Class 5 Company over 1250m at Hollywoodbets Durbanville last time. He takes a rise in class, but is in a good space and should be up to the task at hand.

Race 6

SURJAY fought hard in the Grade 1 Mercury Sprint but found one too good in the form of Isivunguvungu. He returns from a 17-week break which would have done him the world of good. All four of his career victories have come on this course. If not in need of this outing, he should be the one to beat.

THUNDERSTRUCK ran a decent race when second in the Grade 2 Betway Joburg Spring Challenge last time. It must be noted that Main Defender has come out and won again since. He will strip much fitter and merits healthy respect.

RIO QUERARI did not get away to a clean start last time, but stayed on to finish third. He finished 0.95 lengths behind MUFASA in his penultimate run. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned.

Race 7

OUTLAW KING won a game race in the Grade 2 Umkhomazi Stakes last time. He returns from a 17-week break, during which time he would have strengthened up. The son of Rafeef is unbeaten from two starts over this C&D. If not in need of this outing, he should be hard to beat.

READY TO CHARGE ran a fair race in the Grade 2 Betway Joburg Spring Challenge last time. He won a game race in his penultimate run over 1000m on the Turffontein Inside course. If suited to this course, he should run a big race.

JERUSALEMA RAIN had excuses in his local debut. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He will strip a much fitter horse and on best form, he must be included in all bets.

Race 8

TAIL OF THE COMET has been super-impressive in his last two victories. Despite racing wide around the turn last time, he quickened up well and was geared down in the run down to the line. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The son of Gimmethegreenlight should have no issues with the step up to the mile. He has plenty of class and can notch up the hat-trick.

QUESTIONING won a good race in the Grade 3 Cape Classic. The manner in which he quickened up and drew off was encouraging. He jumps from a handy draw of two and merits healthy respect.

HLUHLUWE ran on well when winning his last start over 1400m at Hollywoodbets Durbanville. He has won twice and finished second once from five starts on this course. He tries the mile and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he should be competitive.

Race 9

NATYAM won a good race in his comeback run over 2000m at Hollywoodbets Durbanville. He ran on powerfully at the finish to bring up the hat-trick. He would have come on from the run and should have more to come. He jumps from a good draw of four and can win again.

SUDDEN SONG has good consistent form lines to his credit. He has won once, finished second twice and third once from five starts over this distance. He is likely to be settled near the rear of the field from his wide draw and will be mowing down the frontrunners.

PREVALENCE challenged strongly in his last start, but found one too good in the form of Rule Of Thumb. He should have no issues with the 1800m and with luck in running, he should be competitive
