chelsea1819A betting preview for the Uefa Champions League Group H clash between Chelsea and Ajax which takes place on Tuesday 5th November.

Coming into Matchday 4 and Chelsea and Ajax lead the way in Group H with 6 points from 3 matches. Valencia are third with 4 points and Lille have plenty to do with just 1 point against their name.

In the betting to top this group Chelsea are 13/20 favourites with Ajax next best at 7/4 and Valencia are 6/1.

Chelsea

A goal from Batshuayi  on 86 minutes gave Chelsea a 1-0 win over Ajax in Amsterdam 2 weeks ago and Lampard's team are now in a strong position when it comes to reaching the knockout rounds. Their UCL campaign got off on the wrong foot with a 1-0 home defeat to Valencia on Matchday 1 before a 2-1 win in Lille put Chelsea back on track.

Chelsea continue to impress in the Premier League and a 2-1 victory at Watford at the weekend was their fifth successive league win. They can be found in fourth spot in the standings and although they are 8 points behind league leaders Liverpool they now have a 6 point cushion over fifth placed Arsenal.

Ajax

Although Ajax were beaten semi finalists (losing to Spurs) in this competition last season they had to come through qualifying to reach the group stage. They won their first 2 group matches with plenty of daylight, 3-0 at home to Lille and 3-0 at Valencia. Quincy Promes was on target in both those wins and he also had a goal ruled out by VAR against Chelsea on Matchday 3.

Ajax continue to dominate in the Dutch Eredivise where they have a 6 point lead at the top of the log on the back of a record which comprises of of 10 wins, 2 draws and 0 defeats

The Betting:

At the time of writing Chelsea were trading at 9/10 to win the game with the draw at 28/10 and Ajax can be backed at 11/4.

The markets point to goals with over 2.5 available at 11/20 and it's the same price for both sides to find the net.

The Verdict:

Chelsea are in great shape and victory here will put them in touching distance of the knockout rounds. However you could make a case that Chelsea's form away from home this season has been more impressive than what we have seen at Stamford Bridge and I'm open minded as to the outcome.

Although we saw just the 1 late goal when the teams met in Amsterdam I fancy goals here but so do the bookmakers. Prices for outcomes such as btts yes and over 2.5 goals are on the short side of where I like to wager but combining those 2 outcomes still makes appeal and both sides to register in a game of 3 goals or more is my pick.

Bets: Both teams to score? (yes) and over 2.5 total match goals at 8/10.
