Let’s take a look at the weekend fixtures for Round 14 of the NRL.

 

CRONULLA SHARKS vs GOLD COAST TITANS – Sat 15 August @ 07:00, Netstrata Sydney

The Sharks have been able to take care of business against teams ranked below them on the log but this week they should be well challenged by the Gold Coast team who smashed the Cowboys in Round 13 and have the added confidence from pushing bot the Panthers and Roosters all the way in the two weeks before that. Cronulla won’t have it all their own way here and the handicap is tough to call either way.

 

NORTH QUEENSLAND COWBOYS vs SOUTH SYDNEY RABBITOHS – Sat 15 Aug @ 09:30, Townsville

The Rabbitohs are in decent enough form after two straight wins whilst the Cowboys look out of sorts at the minute. The play-making duo of Reynolds and Walker are firing and should prove too much for the North Queenslanders to handle. There should be only one winner in this one – get on the Bunnies!

 

CANBERA RAIDERS vs BRISBANE BRONCOS – Sat 15 Aug @ 11:35, GIO Canberra

Things couldn’t really be going worse for the struggling Broncos. Their under-siege coach is struggling with vicious personal rumours, their biggest young star, Fafita, has already singed elsewhere, Pangai Jnr has been stepped down after some more off field issues and Boyd has opted out of the leadership group. Its ugly up in Brisbane! The Raiders have had an up-and-down season but unlike the Broncos are at least a settled unit. Canberra should be able to get a confidence building victory from this outing, but the handicap is a tough one given the Raiders’ attacking struggles.

 

NEWCASTLE KNIGHTS vs MANLY SEA EAGLES – Sun 16 Aug @ 06:00, McDonald Stadium Newcastle

Both teams are still scrapping to try and ensure a top eight finish in 2020. The Knights come off a demolishion job over the Tigers whilst Manly went down disappointingly against the Warriors. The lack of Fonua-Blake for the visitors has me leaning the way of Newcastle.

 

WEST TIGERS vs CANTERBURY BULLDOGS – Sun 16 Aug @ 08:05, Bankwest Sydney

Both teams limp into this one. The Tigers seem completely unsure as to who their first-choice team is at the moment. The Bulldogs looked to be an improved outfit but were put away with room to spare by the Storm last time out. I am struggling for a clear idea of how this one will go.
