Super Rugby and Currie Cup Semi-Finals + other rugby 16-18 June

More

There is often a fine line between being in and out of form and this weekend was a good example. I was slightly down entering Saturday after winning nicely in the Blues game and then having a shocker in the Currie Cup where my best bet Griquas -3.5 went up in smoke.

I had a nice 10/1 acca running into Saturday

Blues match u58.5
Reds u20.5
Drua u20.5
Brumbies match u58.5

The Reds got 20 exactly but before kickoff I got greedy grabbing more unders, the problem was th 20.5 was gone and I took 19.5 and also backed Chiefs cap at the break

In the Brumbies game I liked the home team to win and unders. Had I been in form I would probably have taken the Brumbies to win as my final leg but I went unders which was never in the race. I also decided not to hedge at all a decision I soon regretted.

Anyways onto the weekend where we have 4 semi-finals

Super Rugby - my caps v bookies in brackets - for the home team

Crusaders -5.5 v Blues (-4.5)
Chiefs -13.5 v Brumbies (-9.5)

A 4 point difference in Chiefs game - I was possibly a bit high although would not be surprised if it starts in double figures

Currie Cup - bookies are also out already

Cheetahs -4.5 v Bulls (+4.5)
Sharks -13.5 v Pumas (-9.5)

I never watched the 2 Saturday Currie Cup games but assumed with Cheetahs beating Bulls away they would be fav at home and I think the Sharks cap could move out

Have a great week

No visiting team has won a playoff game in Christchurch, ever. 27 years of Super Rugby have provided 28 home fixtures for the Crusaders and the men in red and black have emerged victorious in each of those games. That record will again be on the line this weekend when a familiar rival ventures south for a mouth-watering semi-final.

I say that record gets beaten this weekend. Will look for the best price on Blues to win and fire the Blues plus. Also don't expect a lot of points in that game. Hoping for a total points line of 50 or more and will take unders on that. Also unders on Crusaders points around the 27.5 mark.

Let the battle begin www.twitter.com/hanrickswart

I'm in full agreement with you on the unders predictions Hanrick, but I hold a different view of who wins, for one very simple reason: BMT (big match temperament).

The Blues have some of my best players and I often root for them, and I like Leon as a coach, but I've been unable to find any BMT anywhere for them this entire season. In fact I've seen them display their lack of it more than once as they've stuttered quite a few times.

The Crusaders meanwhile, have boxes full of BMT.
They've beaten the Blues twice already this season, and I see a hat-trick coming.

I also think that the other semi is no gimme either. Chiefs must go carefully.

One concern I would have for the Crusaders is that they were down to 13 at the end with loads of injuries - not sure if any players confirmed unavailable though

Not alot of handicap movement although Chiefs have snuck into double figures as predicted

Here are the total points lines

Crusaders v Blues 48.5 (opened 52.5 I believe)
Chiefs v Brumbies 57.5 (I am looking at unders)

Sharks v Pumas 56.5
Cheetahs v Bulls 62.5

Crusaders v Blues, cant see anything but a defensive battle.

Firing into under 49.5 at 10/11

Also looking at under 5.5 tries at 13/10

First try scorer - Codie Taylor at 9-1

Hoping for the most boring, kicking, scrum laden game in history.

Channeling my inner Hanrick today with a cheeky unders double and it feels dirty.

Under 29.5 Crusaders and under 37.5 Chiefs @ 2.35.

Before I get called crazy - Weather looks properly shit in Hamilton which plays into old school Brumbies rugby where they slow it down and go set piece to set piece. ANYthing else by them and they will get thrashed. Chiefs W but I think this game ends a bit closer than people expect. The problem with playing the current Brumbies +11.5 is the Chiefs can always sneak some magic in the final minute and kill your bet. They are handicap snipers!

All the real value in the Friday semi lies with a Blues dnb @ 2.4 but I think the better punt if you're going with a Blues win is Blues 1-12 @ 3.18 - Crikey I must sound mad thinking about punting a Crusaders playoff home loss. The Crusaders injury list should make this pretty much a pickem match in my opinion and the books haven't adjusted. The +3.5 for the Blues currently available at evens is great and saves you from a heartbreak hotel last minute penalty.

Pumas over 22.5 might have value - They are picking up some momentum and Jimmy wants to sing Sweet Caroline again this season! Either this punt or Sharks under 32.5. Sharks may well win this (probably should), but I can't see them scoring 5 tries here - this might be the way.

Will also throw a small bit of tin on Bulls over 30.5 - They bottled it badly last weekend (Goosen definitely got that kick over) and I think they arrive in Bloem on a perfect rugby Saturday smelling blood. Overs at 60.5 looks well priced and I am unsure of whether the Cheetahs can keep up 2 weeks in a row. A potential HT line of Bulls over 14.5ish looks like it could be great value.

Blues +5.5 & Bulls +3.5 @ 2.2 is my bet of the weekend.

Over(s) and out!

You called me an arsehole. That is verbal abuse.

And for the second time, it’s not racism. The Irish, again, are not a race. You are not being prejudiced because of the colour of your skin. You’re being prejudiced against because you love caravans more than you love the cranberries.

And you swore at hanrick too. That’s unforgivable.

I will go now, in the memory that Ireland will never win a rugby World Cup. That brings me joy.

Line opened at 53.5 and closed at 45.5, so big value definitely on unders. No matter the result, was a must bet on unders. Profitable bet in the long term (around 40% expected yield), but I think that's too much knowledge and info for some people in this forum.

Fancy the Bulls tomorrow.

Unfortunate to lose last weekend againt the Cheetahs after starting like house on fire. The 37th minute red card pretty much killed all momentum for the hosts and were fighting an uphill battle after that.

Bulls to win at 8/11 enough for me to fancy a bet.

T14 final tonight

I fancy La Rochelle to win their first Bouclier de Brennus

They've become a big game team and ROG will have them fired up v Toulouse who beat them in 2021 and chinned them in last year's QF.

Choice game though I've seen 6/5 available on LAR

Weather looks decent in Paris and I've seen points line as low as 42.5 (Ladbrokes) Number feels low but I guess makes sense with the occasion and LAR's suffocating style of play. But this Mug will still play the Overs.

Be interested to get Pablo's thoughts

I'm with you Laraxwell , like La Rochelle as well , their pack is so strong and defence like you say " smothering " . Of course we should be in for a nail biter with loads of squeaky bum time to look forward to.

Earlier I found some 7/10 Bulls dnb and reluctantly have had a small bet on that , one can't trust the Bulls and their intellectual lack of ability .

Good ol Marius VDW referees in Durban and in general is a winny points machine , however like a lab rat I'll be going at the unders and the Pumas on the best plus .
