We have the Junior World Cup starting in Cape. Town on the 24th

We are in group C
Italy, Argentina and Georgia.
I don't think these games will be easy but group B with England, Ireland, Australia and Fiji is goup a of death.

Only one team in each group goes through to the semi(one additional top ranked team) so nothing is left out on the field bybthese youngsters.

Georgia +28.5 looks way too big. Beat England the other day. Couple that with first match pressure and jitters for the Junior Boks in a home World Cup.

"No team is as good or as bad as their last game."

The - 8.5 Ireland vs England also looks good.

Above is the link highlights on Georgia vs England. If it's the same team then England will be smashed in Cape Town.

i've seen some caps in UK, am thinking the bigger minus might be way to go. Points difference potentially key in some groups, eg. POOL A France and NZ will fight it out for top position.

NZ -30 is a big cap but they've had 2 tough warm up games vs Aus and i think come into this more ready, i'm not sure Wales u20 have had a proper game for months? couldn't find anything.

Might wait for the NZ points. Don't know what to make of the other games, probably Ireland -7 appeals but may take them a game to get fully up to best. France -31 v Japan another big cap, French love to attack, Japan could be blown away 2nd half.

This tournament has traditionally been a badly organised affair with matches on only two days every week. It is just staggering that the brains trust are unable to schedule matches on - say four days a week in the round robin stages. This year, however, they have outdone themselves. They have scheduled three matches in the middle of the Cape rainy season on B rugby fields ie Paarl Gym and the Danie Craven. We have had more rain in the Western Cape this year then I have measured in the past 20 years and the water table is higher then anyone can remember.

Any punter thinking points in the Wales/NZ match ie no 3 at Paarl or the SA/Georgia match no 3 in Stellenbosch I would suggest unders is the only option.

Thanks for this. It's a real shame the weather will probably ruin this competition as spectacle
Where is Ireland england on and what are conditions expected to be like?

great comments. And yet I will still be hoping bookies over read on the potential state of pitch/conditions and throw overs punters a bone. The fact of points difference being so key still swaying me despite your very valid point.

I see Boks handicap into 22.5 now

Having originally fancied the +28.5 I am a couple of points away from being a minus backer

Weather expected to be OK Saturday. England/Ireland second match on High School ground. Next bad wave of weather due Wednesday so matches on the 29th could be affected.

I catch some schools rugby around the Durbanville area regularly but my last visit to Paarl Gym was around 2018 and the Danie Craven around 10 years ago. Too long ago to make fully informed calls on the playing surface but good school fields in Durbanville two weeks ago were a little dodgy come the final match and there has been one or two real mud baths in the area recently.
Probably worth holding the really big strike on the third matches until around half time in the second match.

Must add though it's a tricky tournament. We topped our group after losing a game in 2012.
Teams with good depth also important to bag those points. England used to send their best players on in 2nd half when they won the tournament.

LOL - these bookies! - when they don't know how to price up points, they offer "points -odd or even" - at least the one I am referring to has 96/100 and 97/100;
not 17/20 the pair as some of the thief's are pricing up

Had a nice punt on the unders at 56.5 in the Italian match , the red card had me sweating until I thought I had escaped for Argentina to score another try in the last two minutes to kill the bet .... sigh .

Will wait for in play in Ire v Eng match but more likely to play a ~ 50 pt over after 10mins
Last 2 matches between these sides have yielded 60 and 69 pts so not confident on Unders.

Fields not really stopping the flow of points it seems , waiting to have an in play next bet or for the bookies to start lengthening those spreads. Died in the irish game , became loose and tries a plenty

Considering the rain I would say this pitch has really held up well

I am so out of form its scary - cannot pick a winner and the Cheetahs game will determine whether or not I have a layoff

Went under 27.5 points second half points in the currie cup final, wasn’t sure on that handicap! So was rooting for no points.

Good shout on the boks game, actually went over 57.5 points, with Harry Pottervili missing his final conversion to cost me. Them the breaks.

Cheers Chiefie I thought that unders was dead early then with 20 to go it looked home and hosed - in the end relieved to get up

6 matches coming on Thursday and we are likely going to do the Handicap show a night early so we can preview the games

Here are the fixtures with my projected caps - just a gut feel as expect some team changes

Australia +4.5 v Ireland - tough one, Aus were shorter in the outright betting but battled past Fiji and Ireland failed to beat the cap against England drawing the match. I was impressed at times though and felt they were the better team

France -9.5 v New Zealand - France look a class above - wondering if New Zealand rested players for Wales? If not I think they are in trouble

Wales -28.5 v Japan u20 - Wales almost beat the AB's

South Africa -23.5 v Italy - that early Italy red card was a killer but Boks should start big favs

Argentina -15.5 v Georgia - they were playing 14 but I was impressed with Argentina

England -19.5 v Fiji - I didn't see the Fiji game so a fair amount of guess work here

Also looking forward to seeing outright betting

WSB are out with match day 2 handicaps - theirs in brackets next to mine

Australia +4.5 (choice) v Ireland

France -9.5 (-4.5) v New Zealand

Wales -28.5 (-25.5) v Japan u20

South Africa -23.5 (-20.5) v Italy

Argentina -15.5 (-14.5) v Georgia

England -19.5 (-15.5) v Fiji

Differences 3-4 points in orange and 5 or bigger in red

I really like France -4 and also fancy Ireland to win

They have also posted outright betting with France and SA 5/2 and New Zealand at 28/10

Going to mull over things for a while

Outright betting is spread right across for them and reckon our third game against them could be a cruncher.

Some big movements - current prices to the far right

Australia +4.5 (choice) +5.5 v Ireland - closer to where I expected it

France -9.5 (-4.5) -11.5 v New Zealand - has now moved past my line (France also into 18/10 outright)

Wales -28.5 (-25.5) -25.5 v Japan u20 - stable

South Africa -23.5 (-20.5) -18.5 v Italy - Italy have shortened a couple

Argentina -15.5 (-14.5)-8.5 v Georgia - money for Georgia

England -19.5 (-15.5) -16.5 v Fiji - stable

NOTICE
There will be no handicap on Thursday night as there is no rugby but we will be doing a show on Wed 28th at 20h00 where I will be joined by @Jackalforlife who is a massive fan of junior rugby and attended games at both stadiums last weekend

Set a reminder for tomorrow nights show here

I really like Ireland 9/10.

French 6/10 also a good bet,
Take the double! See NZ picked same team so their A team played Wales. definitely not title contenders.

Lots of rain falling in Cape Town on Wednesday and Thursday. Unders, unders and more unders.

South Africa rest some players, like Italia's plus. Hopefully red card doesn't spoil their game again.

Wales are playing their A team against Japan, so think Wales minus good bet and Japan under's probably the better bet.

Ireland to win the group is 18/10 on WSB. Fancy that!

I do like an Ireland France final. Suspect French will finish 1st with that huge points difference and Ireland 2nd/3rd. Can get each other in the final.
10/1 on WSB.

30 mins to KO and still no points lines for Aus U20 v Ire U20.
93% Humidity but forecast seems ok
Ireland coach is looking for a better territorial kicking game so less off the cuff attack.
Still inclined to play Overs on points though. Ireland Maul has gone well and B Gleeson is back starting at 8 and part of a tearaway loose trio.
I don't know much of today's opposition but can't see an underage Aussie side look to play it tight.
Hoping for a low 50's to aim at
