I have enjoyed the coverage so far and it is the mens 100m final tonight

No Simbane sadly as was DQ'd in the semi's and I make it a 2 horse race between Lyles and Seville - Lyles the pick at 13/10 - winning time 9.77

Good price that! Nicely done.

Oddly I fly to Budapest Wednesday for a week with family and had no idea this was taking place when booked.

Cheers South enjoy Budabest

After the semi I expected around 6/10 so was surprised to see 13/10

Must say it was not the 2 horse race I expected though and great run from Tebogo the Botswana youngster

I believe 200m both of their specialist events so that should be a battle

Women's 1500m final tonight and based on past results, this season form and odds, Kipyegon is a lock to win the Gold. The bookies also seem to think the medals are a foregone conclusion for Kipyegon, Hassan and Weltjei, and they could be right.

However, I think there is value in Laura Muir to medal tonight. Arguably the best European Competitor in 1500m, she is always consistent and runs a good race. Recently, she has produced on the biggest stage and finished 1st in the Commonwealth Games and 2nd in the Olympics. Speaking ahead of the Champs, she mentioned she's in the form of her life and is targeting a medal. I think she has a good chance to upset and continue her consistent form and medal once again.

Laura Muir to win a medal - 45/10 (Sunbet)
H2H- Muir/Mageean - 11/10 (Sunbet)

Men's High Jump final tonight and Barshim is 5/10 to win gold, so no value there.
I think the Italian and current Co-Olympic Champion Gianmarco Tamberi can break his duck at the World Champs and medal for the first time at the event. All finalists qualified for tonight by jumping 2.28m and that mark should easily be bettered tonight. Tamberi has struggled with some injures this season, but his class is still there, and should give Harrison, Woo and Poyte a challenge.

Tamberi to win a medal - 18/10 (Sunbet)

Wasn't a good showing from Muir in the final, faded badly on the final lap, after being in a good position.

Lesson learnt on the Tamberi bet, need to also back them to win the gold as well. Missed out on a 12/1 winner

Day 6 is tonight and looking forward to the mens 400m final.

Prior to the Semi's Gardiner was 6/10 fav to win the Gold and Wade Van Niekerk was 17/10 second fav. Unfortunately Gardiner pulled up injured approaching the final 100m while leading his heat and Van Niekerk just squeezed through to the final as one of the fastest qualifiers who didn't get through by placing 1st or 2nd.

Interestingly, based on Van Niekerk poor showing in the Semi's his now 55/10 to win the gold tonight (3rd favorite). Hudson-Smith is the fav tonight after he set a new European Record in his Semi. Van Niekerk did finish ahead of him in their heat prior to the Semi's.

Van Niekerk mentioned it wasn't a good run by him but his just glad to make the final and is definitely targeting a medal and hopefully the gold. I think he will be competitive tonight and hopefully run into the first 3. Prior to his semi heat, he was running well and was very impressive with his times. Hopefully that semi run was a big warning for him and a wake up call and not something more. I think having the inside lane will also help him tonight, instead of running blind on the outside.

Sorry for posting this part here, and not in the US Open tennis topic. Tonight also sees another South African in action when Kevin Anderson plays Tomas Machac in the 2nd qualifying round of the US Open. Anderson comeback run on tour has been impressive so far, especially with his lack of games. What has caught the eye is his serve and forehand winners, and based on his performance before his retirement and injuries, when his serve is on fire, he always gets opportunities to hold and gain an advantage, especially when his overall game is not on point.

Anderson has been competing on the Main tour while Machac has been on the Challenger tour. Machac is the favorite tonight but his not as consistent as Anderson and does not have a lethal serve that could trouble the South African. The faster hard courts in the US plus home support from the Americans should see Anderson fighting hard for a spot in the next round.

Apologies for the long read but my plays for tonight:

Wade van Niekerk to win gold - 55/10
Kevin Anderson to win - 13/10

Main bet (call it a patriotic double) :

Van Niekerk to win a medal + Anderson to win a set - 14/10

If anyone does get a chance to watch tonight, probably have to multitask with streaming the Handicap Show, keep an eye out for the semis in the Women 200m and the Men 800m.

Gabby Thomas (I remember South mentioning her a few years back on the forum) is running in the 200m and is around 5/1 to win gold. Hopefully she gets through her Semi and then can reassess the potential bet for the final on Friday night. Theres no value for her to medal at 3/10.

Marco Arop is running in the 800m semis tonight and is also around 5/1 to win gold. There is also good odds of around 9/10 for him to medal in the final. Should he progress tonight, I expect him to at the worst medal on Saturday night. He looked very good in his heat the other night and is running well.

Gabby Thomas had the fastest time in the Semis but its definitely Jackson race to lose. I don't think Thomas can get the gold but will still have a small punt on her when the odds are out.
Another bet could be Thomas to beat Richardson (they both will fight it for silver).

Arop looked good in his Semi and won with something to spare. Depending on his odds for the final, there are two betting options for him.

Women 200m final tonight

Gabby Thomas is around 5/1 to win gold and I will have a small punt on her. I don't think she can beat Jackson, but anything can happen in a final. Thomas is here only for the 200m while Jackson and Richardson competed in the 100m, so she should be fresh and ready to go.

I was also hoping to get odds for Thomas to beat Richardson in a H2H, but Thomas is priced at 6/10 in that matchup so will avoid that bet.

Mens 200m final tonight

Lyles seems a lock for the gold, so everyone else is fighting it out for two medals. I think Kenny Bednarek is a dark horse for this race and he was very impressive in the heats and his semi. It should be a blanket finish for a few runners fighting for Silver and Bronze.

Kenny Bednarek to win a medal - 2/1

Dodged a bullet when the inside line opened up for Ben yesterday. Hope he picks a better line over the weekend.

Mens 200m

Agree with Naidoo. Looks all over bar the shouting. Thing is those odds on the Tebogo are just too long. Even the slightest off day from Lyles and the best of the rest has a shot

Win
Tebogo @ 15/2

Chebet @ 12/1 could be a danger to hot favourite in women’s 5000 tonight. Ignore heat time, has had a strong last 18m over this trip, and reading some interviews from a few months ago had set her entire season out for a push for gold in Budapest.

17/20 a podium but I’m not a low price punter on athletics, just the bigger odds.

Thanks South will follow.

Arop was brilliant in the 800m final.
I likee how Simbine finished the 4x100m relay semi for SA and will have a small punt on SA to medal at 6/1.

6/1 looks big as seen 9/4 in places! Pulling for you.

Took a late decision to back Chebet to medal so a small profit on the athletics this evening.
