Overall I finished on top this weekend but only just. Still it was good to break a 2 week losing streak and hopefully get back into the groove.

As far as the Newsletter Best Bet goes the original bet Sharks -3.5 just landed but as the market moved so quickly I sent out an alternative which was Gloucester to win at 8/10 and sadly they conceded a late try to lose the match - worse still I already had this in the 10/1 acca and it ended up being the leg which cost us the win.

Onto this week and I have included the Varsity Cup final in this thread - here is the latest betting - WSN and (Sunbet)

Maties -8.5 (-7.5) v Tuks - I like Maties here

Here are my Super Rugby handicap projections

Reds +5.5 v Chiefs
Force +14.5 v Blues
Drua +9.5 v Highlanders (from what I can tell they are playing at home, I am not 100% certain though)
Waratahs +17.5 v Crusaders
Rebels -8.5 v Moana Pasifika
Brumbies -3.5 v Hurricanes

and the URC projections where SA teams are playing

Bulls -13.5 v Glasgow
Lions -9.5 v Benetton
Sharks -7.5 v Connacht
Stormers -12.5 v Leinster

There is also Gallagher Premiership action

Early play on Drua +13.5 @ 1.91

1st proper home game in Suva, just can't see them beating an average Landers by 2 clear scores - even if they get Aaron Smith back

Maties v Tuks
Tuks were at home in the league match in round two which Maties won by 10 points. Since then Tuks have sharpened up their attack and generally look around 20-30% better. Maties, on the other hand, are a much better outfit. Their performance against UCT last time out was 70-80% better then the match they lost only four weeks earlier.
Really looks like a no brainer this evening but we must keep in mind the words of that sage - Oracle "Remember these are just kids" - so not too large

Maties -8.5 @ 17/20

Well done to Tuks on coming back to win that - considered backing them at 6/1 with 12 minutes left as they were dominating but decided to hold onto my Maties minus and hope - didn't want the double smack

Super Rugby and URC markets up and here is how they compare to mine - WSB in brackets

Reds +5.5 (+7.5) v Chiefs
Force +14.5 (+22.5) v Blues
Drua +9.5 (+11.5) v Highlanders (from what I can tell they are playing at home, I am not 100% certain though)
Waratahs +17.5 (+23.5) v Crusaders
Rebels -8.5 (-5.5) v Moana Pasifika
Brumbies -3.5 (+2.5) v Hurricanes

Some differences and I like the Drua plus on the back of Brads post and also leaning Waratahs and Brumbies plus

and the URC projections where SA teams are playing - couldn't find Bulls and Stormers games

Bulls -13.5 v Glasgow
Lions -9.5 (-12.5) v Benetton
Sharks -7.5 (-9.5) v Connacht
Stormers -12.5 v Leinster

Crusaders lining up with no Mo’unga, Ennor, Bridge & Blackadder.
And bench looks particularly weak.

Waratahs +22.5 @ 1.91

Edit - in truth only Mo'unga missing weakens them, plenty of depth elsewhere. But he is so key for them.

I am going rather large on unders 57.5 in the Blues game after this and a healthy strike on the Farce plus 20.5 ....

We need to know what Chiefies grubby little paws are involved in this weekend ;)

Going against the grain in Perth.

Western Force vs Blues

Seven All Blacks have returned to the Blues lineup.
They’ve got weapons all across the park, especially up front. A big physical forward pack.
The Force was struck by Covid last week and their players have come out of isolation, so training would have been impacted.
The weather is nice in Perth and we should see points.

Bet 1: Blues -20.5 @1.88
Bet 2: Over 54.5 Points @1.83

On the second leg here on a double. Need under 58.5 - hoping force get battered by 20 points and decline attempts at goal. I hope Pickerill is reffing, no idea.

Tonight, have Marcus Smith to score 15+ at 3-1

Crusaders U18.5 first half points (bet365)

Saders tend to start slow and haven't scored more than 18.5 in first half of any game this year.

Obviously that is mostly against NZ opposition, but
- only scored 7 in first half against Rebels last week.
- quite a few changes this week so might take a while to gel.
- few ABS resting and no Mounga key.

You must have been sweating bullets in that second half. Although you’d probably resigned yourself to the fact the bet was a loser after that Landers try in the 62min. Pickerill hey, can always count on him to deliver the unders.

I’ve had tremendous success with the Women’s Canada Sevens this weekend. The Mexican Women’s team is an invitational team at this weekend’s tournament, and let me tell you, they are TERRIBLE.

Has been free money taking the minus handicap against them so far:

Australia -43.5 (58-0 final)
Canada -35.5 (43-0 final)
Spain -31.5 (53-0 final)

Brazil -31.5 looks to be a cracker. Their only previous meeting saw Brazil win 45-0 in 2019. Brazil women’s 7s team has improved greatly since 2019 as well, so the -31.5 seems a gift.

And another absolute peach of a bet has to be France +8.5 vs Fiji. Not sure what the bookies are thinking here. France are undefeated this weekend and have beat Fiji in 6 of the last 7 head to head. Fiji has looked good, but them being favoured by that much is absurd. I’d have it as a pickem or France as slight favourites.

Women’s 7s Day 2 Bets

Brazil -31.5 vs Mexico @ 1.90
France +8.5 vs Fiji @ 1.80
France W vs Fiji @ 3.75

The day is off to a rocking start as the France +8.5 and France Win both hit as France romp to a 31-14 victory against Fiji.

Didn’t post in my original plays, but also got a slice of France 13+ at a whopping 17.00!

The Brazil -31.5 has moved out to -39.5, so feeling confident about completing the clean sweep in the first session. Will be posting bets throughout the day as handicaps are posted.

Certainly was a nervy start going 14-0 down two minutes in, but 12 minutes is an eternity in 7s.

Do yourself a favour and watch the Mexican ladies in about 15 minutes time if you need a good laugh. They’ve been able to get outside of their own half only once this weekend, and it was a result of a restart out on the full giving them a free kick at halfway.
