Rugby World Cup 2022 (2021) Betting Thread

Some really big caps for the opening games and fully agree with Brent and Hanrick that with a little research there will be some very good value to be found.

The first 3 games are played at Eden Park, where the last 3 are played at Northland Events Centre in Whangarei. So far weather predicted looks ok. Weather may be a big factor later on.

First strike for me:

Nz -27.5 v Australia

Some injury concerns for some key NZ players but the Kiwis smashed Aus 52-5 in August and then played an experimental team and still beat Aus 22-14.

At a packed out Eden Park and being coached by Wayne Smith I expect the kiwi girls to cover.

I'm lucky the wifes away otherwise I'd be coping it for the amount of Womens rugby I've been watching on Youtube lol.

My thoughts so far

South Africa +43.5 v France
Tough one to start with, I would play the half time line if anything (-20.5). I think its the kind of game France score early then just cruises to save themselves for later in the tournament.

Fiji +55.5 v England
If you think England can NIL Fiji then take the minus. If you think Fiji can score a couple take the plus.

Australia +27.5 v New Zealand
Can't not back NZ with the coaching changes at home in Eden Park.

USA -6.5 v Italy
Watched more Italian rugby than anything to try get a read on this game because of the reasonable line. Italy really doesn't have much on attack, no speed, no power, no footwork and no skill players. I think they will struggle to put points on the board more so if Furlan is out.
Unders become a strong play in Italian games if offered because they still structurally defend well.

Japan +35.5 v Canada
Haven't seen much of these two assume Canada wins well.

Wales v Scotland (choice)
Wales wins this one, Scotland are a mess from the top management down that will come through in the performance on the field.

Will skip caps this tournament, not confident enough on womens game. 1st day treble -

England over 63.5
France over 8.5 tries
NZ over 40.5

May have to tread very carefully this tournament. A small/medium treble to try get going today and falls at first hurdle on France tries. Watched on recorded thought they were cruising to it after 20min.

Got a feeling second round games may get better to punt.

Was lining up a big strike on Fiji and Australia but these minuses have come out a lot bigger than I hoped. Still think Fiji cover.

Australia has not even scored more than 20 points in a game in the last 5 years let alone win a game. Scotland are battle hardened.

Canada is good and they have the best kicking game. 10, 12, 15 can all kick, 9 can box kick and even 8 kicks goals. Italy will still make them grind for the win.

Nothing out with books I bet with yet, but on the above caps I like Scotland plus (their forwards looked impressive) and Wales plus.

Agree under looks really good, already have Italy +14.5 and Fiji -3.5 First half, just deciding how hard I want to hammer Wales plus.

I would agree with those that have previously suggested UNDERS in the totals in this tournament as where some value may currently lie. In light of that WAL v NZ 65.5 total pts seems pretty high doesnt it? Thoughts?

Have not really punted this tournament but for some reason i really like Australia -8 this weekend. I think some teams have had their best matches already and Wallaroos, as a very new unit together, still not really clicked.

May need to look at it differently to get a balance, but hoping cap may come in further, will then jump on the best minus.

NZ -21.5 first half

The girls keep talking about the rev up they get from Wayne Smith at half time. Two games in a row with poor starts I think it will be a focus in this one.

Last week I was on WAL v NZ under 65.5 and looked home, with 10min to go the score was 7-46 only to be sunk by a yellow and 2 ties in the final 2mins of the match. Today NZ are without their top two try scorers, with Portia Woodman and Ruby Tui both rested out of the side to play Scotland, they've scored 8 of NZ's 17 tries so far at the WC. So lacking some firepower, not needing to win by a margin for their tournament position, with some new faces playing maybe they will lack a bit of cohesion - Considering whether i butter up again and take the Under 63.5....

10-7 with 61 minutes gone. The Unders train rolls on.

Canada-USA is the match I’m targeting and will be a green light unders play once bookies post a total.

I’m liking the Under 63.5 also. Woodman has been an absolute force this tournament. She will be a big loss.

Scotland have been solid defensively in their previous matches. I don’t think they’ll contribute much on the scoreboard and asking a rotated NZ squad to score 57+ points in a relatively meaningless match is asking a lot.

Yeh good point, you'd think those two sides will beat each other up and every inch will be scrapped for.

Wallaroos yellow card and a player down for last 10min of match, great chance here for Wales to snatch it against the grain if they're good enough.
