We take a look at all seven English Premier League matches taking place on Saturday including Liverpool v Notts Forest and Newcastle v Manchester City
Prices quoted are correct at the time of publication but subject to change.
Burnley v Chelsea
With 10 points only goal difference is keeping Burnley out of the relegation zone. They have won 2 home games this season against fellow promoted sides Sunderland and Leeds and they also drew with Notts Forest. Their most recent home game saw them go down 2-0 to league leaders Arsenal and last time out they were beaten 3-2 away to West Ham.
Chelsea will kick off in third place with 20 points, 2 behind Manchester City and 6 shy of Arsenal. They have won 4 of their last 5 league games including visits to Spurs (1-0) and Forest (3-0) and their only away defeat came at Man United where Chelsea had their keeper red carded early doors.
Burnley can be hard to break down at home and Chelsea might not have this all their own way. I’m looking away from the match result however in favour of a stats play and 2-3 goals in total, which has arrived in 4 of 5 Burnley home games is my play.
Bet: Goal Range 2-3 at 11/10 with Betway
Bournemouth v West Ham
Bournemouth are ninth with 18 points though that is only 1 behind fourth placed Sunderland in a congested top half of the standings. They went into the international break with successive defeats at Man City (3-1) and then Villa (4-0) but they are unbeaten at home in the league with 4 wins and draw.
West Ham have given their fans reason for optimism with home wins over Newcastle (3-1) and Burnley (3-2). They remain in the bottom 3 but now with 10 points, 4 of which were earned with a win away to Forest and a score draw at Everton.
Bournemouth have been shipping goals when travelling lately but they have been a different proposition in home fixtures. Meanwhile West Ham should take plenty from back to back home wins although chief creator Paqueta is suspended for this one. Gut feel is this will be tight and hopefully low scoring.
Bet: Total goals, under 2.5 at 23/20 with Sportingbet
Brighton v Brentford
Both these sides are in mid table with 16 points. Brighton have lost only 1 of their last 7 alongside 3 wins and 3 draws. They are unbeaten at home with 3 wins and 2 draws and the pick of their results was probably a 2-1 win over Man City at this venue.
Brentford are in decent form with 4 wins in their last 6. They have won at West Ham recently but that is the only league game in which they have avoided defeat this season and their most recent road trip saw them go down 2-0 at Palace.
I find this pretty tough to call but will have a small interest in the bookings market. Jan Paul van Hecke has been an ever present for Brighton in defence this season, picking up 3 yellows along the way. The home side’s back line could have their hands full with in form Igor Thiago and a few other talented Brentford attacking players and I’ll chance my arm that could lead to a card.
Bet: To be shown a card, Jan Paul van Hecke yes at 27/10 with Sportingbet
Fulham v Sunderland
Fulham’s only points return in their last 6 league games came with a 3-0 home win over bottom of the table Wolves and they have slipped to fifteenth place, just 1 point clear of the drop zone. Earlier home form included wins over Leeds and Brentford and a draw with Man United but Arsenal did leave this venue with all 3 points.
Sunderland went into the international break in a lofty fourth position following a -2 draw at home to Arsenal. They have won 2 and drawn 2 of their last 4, only one of those was an away fixture and they came away from Chelsea with a 2-1 win.
Fulham’s better form is at home but they are in a slump in terms of results and they come up against a side who continue to surprise. I see scope for goals for both sides plus at least one more and in the goalscorer markets I’ll go with Wilson Isidor any time.
Bet: Total goals and both teams to score? Yes at 14/10 with Betway
Anytime goalscorer Wilson Isidor at 5/2 with Betway
Liverpool v Notts Forest
With 18 points Liverpool are already 8 off the pace being set by Arsenal. They went down 3-0 at Man City last time out but they have won 4 of 5 at Anfield in the EPL, most recently seeing off Villa 2-0 and they have beaten both Madrid clubs in UCL home fixtures.
Forest’s 3-1 home win over Leeds preceded by a 2-2 draw at home to Man United wasn’t enough to move out of the relegation zone but does represent a significant improvement under Sean Dyche. They have yet to win away from home, drawing at Palace and Burnley alongside 3 defeats.
The pressure is on Liverpool who have found clean sheets hard to come by but I see them in the goals here, hopefully more than 1 but no more than 3.
Bet: Liverpool multi goals, 2-3 at 19/20 with Pokerbet
Wolves v Crystal Palace
Rob Edwards takes charge of Wolves who are rock bottom with just draws at home to Brighton and away at Spurs against their name. They have conceded 25 league goals and scored just 7 and Man City, Everton, Leeds and Burley have all left this ground with maximum points.
Palace drew 0-0 at home to Brighton last time out and they are also in the mid table scrum with 17 points. They have drawn at Chelsea and won at Villa and West Ham this season but their last 2 road trips, at Everton and arsenal both ended in defeat.
Wolves are looking for that new manager bounce but Palace have the guns to take maximum points here and I’ll keep it simple.
Bet: Palace to win, even money at Pokerbet
Newcastle v Man City
Newcastle are coming under a bit of pressure with just 12 points against their name. It’s their away form that is responsible for the below par start and although they have lost to Liverpool and Arsenal at St. James Park this season they have beaten Wolves, Forest and Fulham.
City can cut the gap to leaders Arsenal to just a single point if they can win here. Their last 8 league games have delivered 6 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat but they have lost at Villa and Brighton this season alongside wins at Wolves and Brentford and a draw at The Gunners.
A big test for City but also an opportunity to put some pressure on Arsenal who host Spurs on Sunday. Newcastle might be feeling he pressure here and I’m taking my chances that will lead to them picking up more cards than City.
Bet: Most cards? Newcastle at 1.45/ with Sportingbet
