The latest Goodforthegame newsletter penned by @BrentGraham with best bets for the weekend of 18th to 20th December
Last week I decided to post a football bet as the headliner in the weekly newsletter. I was battling with the rugby and figured I had found some betting value with Newcastle to beat West Brom in the EPL. Recent form certainly suggested they should be odds on favourites.
I put them up at just shy of 13/10 and a couple of hours later I logged on expecting to see some sort of shortening of the price, instead Newcastle had been pushed out to 15/10 and a quick google was all that was required to find out they were missing a number of key players.
Thankfully the bet arrived anyway, but I think I will stick to a sport where I am a bit better at predicting those market movements.
HOLLYWOOD NOT BUDGING
That brings me on to this week’s Best Bet. Two of the shrewder punters in the Goodforthegame Forum @CLRugby and @ThoughtsOnSports were both quickly on to the fact that the Cheetahs were fielding a fairly weak side away to the Pumas due to players leaving the franchise as well as illness and injuries.
There was some (+12.5) Pumas, but by the time I got on and posted our Trademark Preview the best I could find was (+10.5) at Hollywood Bets. What surprises me though is that this price is still available on Friday morning as I really did expect the money to come for the Pumas and I see the line has moved to 8.5 at many bookmakers.
The Pumas are generally competitive at home and last week gave Western Province a real scare on the road. I think they can push these Cheetahs all the way and aside from my handicap play I have also taken an interest in the 7/2 that they win the match outright.
I am pretty confident Hollywood will move this line in before kick off and in fact it comes with “Graham’s Guarantee” which at the moment means very little but I am planning something interesting around this next year.
BET: 6 Units, Pumas (+10.5) at 9/10 at Hollywood Bets
THE HANDICAP
Despite a number of cancelled games due to COVID, including the Griquas v Bulls match, there was plenty of rugby to talk about on last nights THE HANDICAP show where I was joined by @ThoughtsOnSports and @theCRowetips.
We disagreed on the Lions v Sharks game (well they agreed with each other), but for me the real value was listening to their opinions on the European rugby where team selection plays a massive role. Looking at the early handicaps and trying to line up some value ahead of team selections is the type of thing I really enjoy about Sports Betting.
