newsletterThe latest Goodforthegame newsletter penned by @BrentGraham with best bets for the weekend of 4th to 6th December

The past week has been a fairly dramatic one on the betting front for me.

Let’s start with the bad news where the Newsletter Bet in last week’s Mitre 10 Cup Final went belly-up with a freakish Northland Try, 7 minutes from time doing the damage.  That being said the bet got off to an awful start and we were always just hanging on – as @ThoughtsOnSports  likes to say “It’s the hope that kills”

ALL BLACKS DELIVER AT THE DEATH
One of the massive swings came in the New Zealand v Argentina match where I was strong on New Zealand over 32.5 points.  They could only get to 10 at the break and were on 31 when the hooter had sounded and Lomax was sent off with a yellow card.  At that point I thought I was done, but somehow the All Blacks rallied to run from their own 22 and scored a dramatic try that had me out of my seat and shouting at the TV.  This weeks Citizen Blog is titled “All Blacks deliver late profits”.

LIGHTNING FOILS BIGGEST BET
There was more drama to come though as the points line in the Griquas v Lions clash was set low at 45.5.  This was due to rain about but also a fearsome wind, but when it was established the rain had subsided I climbed into this 45.5 which was my biggest bet in some time.  After a shaky start there had been 38 points after 47 minutes and landing this one looked a formality.  Unfortunately a massive thunderstorm hit and the game was abandoned meaning all bets were void.  A very disappointing result but you have to accept these things as a punter as voiding bets is the only fair outcome and I benefited in a similar situation when Western Province were at the Bulls earlier this season.

MUNSTER GET WEEK OFF TO A CRACKIN START
Then on Monday morning when doing the Currie Cup handicapping on the Goodforthegame Forum I picked up on Zebre team news thanks to a few excellent punters I follow on Twitter (e.g @CLRugby)  and decided that the (-36.5) Munster wasn’t going to be enough against Zebre.  I piled in only to find the game wasn’t televised and for the first time I had to rely on live streaming which once I sifted through a 100 odd adverts was not too bad.  More importantly Munster did the job to get my week off to a flier.

THE HANDICAP
Jordan from @Son_of_a_Punt joined me and Dave from Dublin on the show last night and we ran through the weekends Rugby fixtures.  The pair came up with some solid looking bets some of which I will include in an accumulator at the bottom of the newsletter.

Calling this weeks Best Bet is not easy and I was initially looking at unders in the Pumas v Griquas game but was hoping for a few more points than the current line of 53.5.

Instead I am turning to the Lions v WP game tomorrow night. In my preview I took the 13/10 Lions at Hollywood. I just feel this WP team is in a bad place and were it not for some awful reffing from Rasta at Newlands they may well have lost to the Lions in that game. Letting a lead slip at home against 14 men last week was poor and I think the Lions win this and will take the +3.5 as my Best Bet of the week.

BET: 5 units Lions +3.5 at 9/10 at Hollywood
