BettingDiaryTorrey Pines South Course in Southern California plays host to this weeks US Open.

As traditionally is the case in US Opens, the golfers are going to find conditions tough. The course last hosted a Major back in 2008 when an injured Tiger Woods famously beat Rocco Mediate in an 18-hole playoff. Few of us would have guessed that it would be another 11 years before Tiger Woods won another Major.

The course has had some major renovations since then and will play to a very long par 71 this week. The rough will be up in typically US Open style and wandering off the fairway is invariably going to cost you a shot. The greens will be quick and the course should get tougher as the week progresses.

Lets have a look at the Outright Betting where World Sports Betting are paying 6 places this week. Jon Rahm is the 10/1 favourite and he will be determined to bounce back after leading the Memorial a couple of weeks ago only to have been withdrawn after a positive COVID test.

Dustin Johnson is 15/1 and Brooks Koepka and Bryson Dechambeau, who won this Tournament between them 3 of the last 4 years, are 18/1. Rory Mcilroy and Xander Schauffele are 20/1 and you can get 22/1 and better the balance.

SUGGESTED BETS:

Brooks Koepka each way at 18/1

Koepka is a man known for his ability to close out Major Championships and he was runner-up to Phil Mickelson in the PGA Champs despite a troublesome knee which he claims is much better now. He missed the cut last week, but that was purely preparational and I would be very surprised if Koepka isn’t in contention come the back 9 Sunday

Xander Schauffele each way at 20/1

Schauffele was disappointing in the PGA Champs with a missed cut, but he has had a couple of Top 15 finishes either side of that event and it is his US Open record which interests me where he hasn’t finished outside the Top 6 in 4 attempts. He loves a tough challenge and will certainly get that here and I am expecting a big week from Schauffele.

Wilco Nienaber each way at 140/1

Countryman, Garrick Higgo rightly stole the headlines with his maiden PGA Tour win last week, but I was also impressed with the showing of Nienaber who finished in the Top 15 and he is definitely finding his form again after a poor run.

South African golfers seem to be on a bit of a high at the moment and I am hoping Nienaber can build on last week’s solid showing.

Corey Conners each way at 90/1

Conners faded at the PGA Championship after a fast start eventually finishing inside the Top 20. I had already highlighted him as a potential Major win early this year when I backed him for the Masters where he finished 8th and although his form has cooled a bit, I think he offers excellent value at 90/1 and I will be ignoring his 2 missed cuts in the US Open as I believe he has taken his game to another level.
