Burnley

Former Manchester City player Vincent Kompany guided Burnley to the Championship title last season and back into the top flight at the first time of asking. They lost just 3 league games in 2022/23 on their way to a tally of 101 points, 10 more than runners up Sheffield United and 21 better off than third placed Luton who subsequently came up through the play offs.

Transfer activity right now has been limited although goalkeeper James Trafford has arrived from Manchester City for £19m with a number of other players signing for undisclosed fees. They have also been linked with a move for Nathan Tella who had a terrific loan spell from Southampton last season.

Latest Season Long Odds

Total points under 40 is 9/10, over 42 is 15/10, 40-42 is 9/2

Manchester City

City landed a treble last season, adding the FA Cup and Champions League trophies to the EPL title. They won 28, drew 5 and lost 5 of their league games, scoring 94 league goals and conceding 33. Haaland hit the net 36 times for City in the EPL season alone.

In pre-season City lost 2-1 to Atletico Madrid in Seoul and they beat Bayern 2-1 in Tokyo whilst last weekend they played out a 1-1 draw with Arsenal in the Community Shield before losing the subsequent penalty shoot out.

Transfer activity right now includes the signing of Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea for £30m and Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig for £77.6m , heading out, Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan are the most notable names but rumours suggest transfer business looks set to continue in both directions.

Burnley are trading at around 81/10 to win the game with the draw at 4.53/1 and City can be backed at around 0.32/1

A game of 3 goals or more is 6/10 and it's even money for both teams to score.

Haaland is 22/10 to score the first goal and 6/10 to score any time

City to lead at half time and full time is 0.83/1

The Verdict:

Burnley look the strongest of the newly promoted sides which gives them every chance of avoiding relegation. They have a tough task here although if there is a more preferable time to play City, early season arguably fits the bill as the champions looked a bit rusty last week.

It's understandably a one sided betting heat and whilst I'm battling to find a stand out bet I will chance my arm with Burnley contributing to the scoring, albeit in defeat.
