Tournament Preview

The European Tour heads to the Spanish capital as some of the top names on the continent face off at the Open de España. Having been an event on the European Tour for almost a century, the event is hugely prestigious on the European golf circuit – having been launched way back in 1912. Colin Montgomerie, Miguel Angel Jimenez, and Jon Rahm are just three names that make up impressive winning alumni in the Spanish sunshine. With the Ryder Cup on the horizon in less than 12 months, crucial points and prize money are up for grabs here.

Betting Preview

Outright Winner

There are plenty of big names descending on Club Campo Villa de Madrid this week in what promises to be a hotly contested four days of golf:-

Jon Rahm – 22/10

Two-time winner of this event and European Ryder Cup hero Jon Rahm looks to be the man to beat at his home event and if he plays anywhere at his normal level, he could romp home here.

Tommy Fleetwood – 8/1

Englishman Tommy Fleetwood has been going through the motions somewhat in recent weeks, but he is a supremely dangerous player on his day, and he could be in the mix here.

Adri Arnaus – 16/1

Another home favourite sure to be in the mix here is Adri Arnaus, a skillful ball striker that is always capable of shooting low scores on any golf course he encounters, and he finished runner-up at this event in 2021.

Eddie Pepperell – 25/1

Englishman Eddie Pepperell has started to hit a rich vein of form again in 2022 and with a relatively open field in front of him, he could be one to watch come Sunday afternoon.

Rafa Cabrera Bello – 33/1

Experienced Spaniard Rafa Cabrera Bello won this event last time out and he could be a player that the home fans really get behind this weekend in Spain.

1st Round Leader

Producing the goods over 72 holes is often the most difficult thing for any golfer to do therefore here are our first-round leader picks:-

Joost Luiten – 60/1

Dutchman Joost Luiten is a former runner up at this event and whilst his form in 2022 hasn’t reached the previous dizzying heights, he is an excellent player when he gets going.

John Caitlin – 70/1

American John Caitlin has a habit of always being there or thereabouts in any event he plays in and fast starts are generally his thing, making him a candidate from the off here in Spain.

Top Five Finish

With so many quality players assembled here in Spain, getting into the winning enclosure could be tough but there are plenty of candidates to finish in the top 5 come Sunday:-

Richie Ramsay – 8/1

Scot Richie Ramsay continues to show real promise in every event he features and how he would love a strong week here in the Spanish sunshine.

Jorge Campillo – 9/1

Another player that should benefit from home advantage and local knowledge is Jorge Campillo. A stalwart on the European Tour, how he would love a top 5 finish here.

Tom Lewis – 11/1

Englishman Tom Lewis is battling away to try and find his very best form on the European Tour but he is a quality operator, who could be right in the hunt in this open field.
