Golf: DP World Tour – Open de France
Venue: Le Golf National, France
Dates: Thursday 22nd – Sunday 25th September 2022
Tournament Preview
Having been off the calendar since 2019 due to the COVID 19 pandemic, the Open de France makes a triumphant return on the DP World Tour. First held back in 1906, the French Open has enjoyed many guises over the years but in 2022 it comes up against more competition than ever before. The breakaway LIV golf series is threatening the very core of golf, with both the DP World Tour and the PGA Tour very much on the defensive and big events such as this always help increase the spotlight on the regular season events. Previous winners of the Open de France include Nick Faldo and Seve Ballesteros, testament to the prestige in which the event remains held in.
Betting Preview
Outright Winner
Plenty of big names are descending on Le Golf National in what promises to be a hotly contested weekend of golf:
American Patrick Reed is one of those players who has moved over to the LIV world golf series and his form over the past few weekends has suggested he is back to his best.
Belgian Thomas Pieters is a classy operator and his performances on the DP World Tour are generally consistent, making him a contender from the off in this one.
Home advantage could pay off here at Le Golf National and few players know this course better than Victor Perez, who will be eager to put down a marker in familiar conditions.
Scot Robert Macintyre was victorious last week at the Italian Open and with confidence sure to be at an all-time high, he looks well placed to go back to back this week in Paris.
Englishman Jordan Smith is another quality player in this packed draw in France and whilst his form in recent weeks has been patchy, he could be one to watch this weekend.
Top Five Finish
With so many quality players assembled here in France, getting into the winning enclosure could be tough but there are plenty of candidates to finish in the top 5 come Sunday:
Former Ryder Cup player Andy Sullivan continues to battle away on the DP World Tour, and he is always a candidate in events such as these.
Scot Richie Ramsay has really started to tick over the past few months on the DP World Tour and if he finds his groove, he could be tough to stop in France.
Englishman Sam Horsfield has enjoyed a terrific couple of seasons on the DP World Tour and he will be one of the front runners to not only finish in the top 10 but to go ahead and win the event.
1st Round Leader
Producing the goods over 72 holes is often the most difficult thing for any golfer to do therefore here are our first round leader picks:-
New Zealander Ryan Fox has really started to assert himself on the DP World Tour over the past couple of seasons and he is known for getting off to quick starts.
Young Scot Connor Syme is a quality ball striker and in favourable conditions here in France, he should be a candidate to fight at the top of the leader board on day one.
