Venue: North Berwick, Scotland.
Dates: Thursday 13th – Sunday 16th July 2023

Tournament Preview

Few events in world golf are as iconic as the Open Championship and with it very much on the horizon at Royal Hoylake, Liverpool next week, the final warm up links event at the Scottish Open comes to the fore. Now one of the biggest events on the DP World Tour, the Scottish Open attracts a stellar field every year, all looking to get accustomed to links golf with the Open looming. A rather handy $9 million dollars can be found in the prize pot too, making it one of the most lucrative events on the calendar – both in Europe and the USA.

Betting Preview

Outright Winner

The Renaissance Club course in North Berwick always tests the best golfers in the world – regardless of the weather and there could be plenty of big names in contention come Sunday:-

Scottie Scheffler – 8/1

World number one Scottie Scheffler is yet to fully prove his worth on links golf courses, but he is one of the form players on the planet currently.

Rory McIlroy – 8/1

2023 hasn’t been the perfect year for Rory McIlroy but he loves links golf, and he could well put on a show here in North Berwick this weekend.

Patrick Cantlay – 12/1

Few players on the PGA Tour are as consistent as American Patrick Cantlay and whilst he is another with no links golf form as such, he should be well suited to conditions here in Scotland.

Viktor Hovland – 18/1

Norwegian Viktor Hovland has been banging on the door at the biggest events on the tour for a few seasons now and with a game made for links golf, he is one to keep an eye on this week.

Matthew Fitzpatrick – 20/1

2022 US Open champion Matthew Fitzpatrick is a man in decent form, and he is always a player to watch, especially in home conditions, making him a decent price this weekend.

First Round Leader

Getting off to a quick start will be key and there will be plenty of players in the mix from the outset in Scotland this week:

Rickie Fowler – 20/1

The resurgence in form of Rickie Fowler in recent weeks has been a joy to watch and the popular American should be one to keep an eye on here.

Tyrrell Hatton – 35/1

Englishman Tyrrell Hatton is another player in decent nick and his familiarity with links golf courses could prove useful here up in North Berwick.

Top Ten Finish

With so many quality players assembled here at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick, getting into the winning enclosure could be tough but there are plenty of candidates to finish in the top 10 come Sunday afternoon:-

Jordan Spieth – 5/2

Despite having won pretty much all there is to win in the game, Jordan Spieth still gives the impression that he could offer more in terms of top 10 finishes, and he could go well here, with links golf very much his specialist subject.

Tommy Fleetwood – 5/2

Englishman Tommy Fleetwood is a player capable of beating anybody on his day and having grown up on the links of Southport, England, he will feel at home here.

Max Homa – 4/1

American Max Homa has been ticking along nicely on the PGA Tour all season and he has a game that should suit the conditions here in Scotland.
