Race 1
CASINO ACE received a bump leaving the start last time, but the manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging. The son of What A Winter is a progressive type. If getting away to a clean start, he can win a race of this nature.
BARNBOUGLE showed good speed over 1250m last time, but did not go on with the effort. The drop back to 1000m should suit him well. He is likely to race on the speed and may be hard to peg back.
OLD Q is an unraced son of Vercingetorix from the Justin Snaith yard with Grant van Niekerk in the saddle. He does not need to be a stable superstar to win in this type of field. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to his chances.
Race 2
PRINCESS VIRGINIE produced a promising debut effort over 1000m on this course. She raced from just off the pace and rallied late to finish second. The daughter of Vercingetorix would have come on from the run and should love the extra 250m on offer. She jumps from pole position and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should go one better.
PRANKSTER showed good improvement when second over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville last time. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. She is a progressive type and is one of the leading contenders.
BRIGHT DUCHESS has fair form lines to her credit. She will be at her best over further, but has the ability to earn another cheque for her patrons.
Race 3
SPELLING BEE showed good improvement when second in his last start over this C&D. He was slow into stride that day, settled at the rear of the field and finished his race off strongly. The son of Futura is a progressive type. He is likely to take his medicine from the wide draw and with luck in running, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
GREENLAND was running on when second over this C&D last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He gets a change of headgear which may do the trick.
COSMIC RHYTHM stayed on when fourth over 1400m on this course last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He will love the rise to the mile and with luck from the widest draw, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 4
PRINCESS CALLA makes her seasonal debut after a successful KZN campaign. She won the Grade 1 SA Fillies Sprint, Grade 1 Ridgemont Garden Province Stakes and the Grade 1 HKJC Champions Cup. This will be her first run over this C&D. She will not be fully tuned for this race and this outing will bring her on for future races. However, she is the class horse in the race and should be too good.
RIO QUERARI should have won his last start as he was cramped for galloping room at the 250m mark. He has won twice and finished second once from as many starts over this C&D. The 7yo gelding may be the horse to fill the exacta spot.
COUNTDOWN ran a good race when second in the Listed Southeaster Sprint last time. He is the stable elect with Raymond Danielson in the saddle. He will strip much fitter and can place
Race 5
OCTOBER MORN ran on powerfully when winning her last start over this C&D. She would have come on with the run under her belt. The daughter of Trippi carries a handy galloping mass of 54.5kgs and she will be mowing down the frontrunners.
THE CHARLESTON finished 1.15 lengths behind ONI SAN last time. She is 4.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She is likely to be settled near the rear of the field from the widest draw and will be mowing down the frontrunners.
HUNTING TRIP ran a good race when second over 1200m at Fairview last time. It must be noted that Three Rocks has come out and won since. She won her only attempt over this C&D and merits healthy respect.
Race 6
This is a competitive Grade 3 Cape Mile field and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is DOUBLE SUPERLATIVE from the Justin Snaith stable. He ran a good race in his comeback run after 71 weeks off the track. He would have come on from the run and will love the rise to the mile. The son of Twice Over may be the one to beat.
ROYAL AUSSIE ran a good race when third in the Grade 3 Hollywoodbets Matchem Stakes last time. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. His best form has been under Richard Fourie and with luck, he should pose a threat.
COSMIC HIGHWAY ran a good race over 1400m on this course last time. He finished 2.5 lengths behind the second selection in his penultimate run. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights and may have to settle for the same result.
Race 7
MRS GERIATRIX is unbeaten from six starts. She had to fight hard for her last victory in the Non-Black Type Bloodstock SA Sales Cup last time. She would have come on from that outing. The daughter of Vercingetorix has her first run on a left-hand turn and if suited, she should keep her unbeaten record intact.
WINTER CLOUD won a good race in her season debut over 1250m on this course. The manner in which she quickened away from the opposition was eye-catching. With a bit of luck from her awkward draw of nine, she should be one of the leading contenders.
JUST BE LEKKER ran a good race when second in the Non-Black Type Cape Racing Sales The Ready To Run Stakes last time. She is lightly raced with class. Gavin Lerena retains the ride from a good draw of three and she should earn another cheque.
Race 8
MOYA WA LALIGA should have finished closer to the winner last time as his saddle slipped in running. He finished 0.75 lengths behind CAFE CULTURE in his penultimate run. He is 4kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He does have a wide draw to contend with, but is likely to use his early gate speed to get across without using up too much energy.
CAFE CULTURE is a winner of his last two starts over this C&D. He received a six-pound penalty for his last victory. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
CHEEKY LADDIE returns from a 16-week break which may have done him the world of good. He has ability and with a bit of luck from his awkward draw of ten, he should run a big race.
Race 9
PALO QUEEN won a good race in her last start over this C&D. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. She received a five-pound penalty for that victory. Craig Zackey retains the ride and the combination can follow up.
FLYING FIRST‘S last three starts have been decent. She returns from a 10-week break which may have done her the world of good. If not in need of the run, she should be involved in the fight to the finish.
WHERE’S THE PARTY ran a fair race when fifth behind Winter Cloud last time. She takes a drop-in class and on best form shown, she should run into the money.
