RACE 1
RESURGENCE returns from a 22-week break and is having his first run for the Kelly Mitchley stable. He is a lightly raced son of Gold Standard who has scope and his penultimate run over 1400m at Hollywoodbets Durbanville was fair. He gets the services of capable work rider Esethu Thuthu and if not in need of the run, he can improve to win.
CONSIGLIERE showed good improvement in his last start over this distance at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth. The blinkers seem to have done the trick. He is having his first run for the Gavin Smith stable and if settled into his new surroundings, he should pose a threat.
CONNECTION has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. It must be noted that the horse that finished third in his last outing has come out and won since. He is likely to race on the speed and may be hard to peg back.
RACE 2
FANTASY GIRL showed improvement when second in her last start over 1200m on this course. She should have finished closer to the winner that day. The daughter of Global View is a progressive type and she should strip much fitter. She can go one better in this line-up.
PROJECT RUNWAY finished 0.1 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the finish.
THREAD OF LIFE finished 0.2 lengths behind the top selection in the race referred to above. She should have finished closer to the winner last time as she hung inwards in the final 400m. The daughter of Master Of My Fate should enjoy the drop to 1000m and is one of the leading contenders.
RACE 3
RAPTOR ISLAND followed up his maiden victory with a good third-place finish over this C&D. He has won once, finished second once and third once from as many starts over this C&D. S’manga Khumalo steps back into the saddle and the combination may find themselves in the winner’s enclosure.
ANUSCHKA’S WORLD was given a peach of a ride when winning his maiden at the third time of asking. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. The son of One World takes on stronger, but he has plenty of scope and should be up to the task at hand.
JOYOUS JUBILEE has good recent form lines to his credit. The son of Caravaggio is likely to race on the speed and merits healthy respect.
RACE 4
MAIDEN’S COVE finished 1.75 lengths behind LADY ZULTANITE last time. She is 2kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish. The daughter of Quasillo jumps from a good draw of three and she will be mowing down the frontrunners.
LADY ZULTANITE was running on when third over 1900m on the Polytrack last time. She won a good race in her penultimate effort over this C&D. The daughter of Canford Cliffs is in a good space and she must be included in all bets.
ON THE GUEST LIST is better than her last start over 1900m on the polytrack. She has finished second twice and third twice from five starts on this course. With a bit of luck from her awkward draw of eight, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 5
GRAZINGINTHEGRASS was given a peach of a ride when winning his last start over 1900m on the polytrack. He finished 0.5 lengths behind CHERRY ANO in his penultimate run. He is 1kg better off at the weights today which is enough for the tables to be turned. He gets the blinkers fitted and if suited to the headgear, he can follow up with another victory.
CHERRY ANO won a game race in his last start over this C&D. He has won three times and finished second once from as many starts over this C&D. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
KINGDOM OF HEAVEN fought hard in his last start, but found one too good in the form of The Mauritian. He would have come on from the run and with just 54kgs on his back, he should be competitive.
Race 6
Trainer Gavin Smith holds a strong hand in this contest. KINGDUNDEE is the pick with Craig Zackey in the saddle. He stayed on well when second in the Listed East Cape Nursery last time. The son of The United States has ability and may be the one to side with.
SILVONIAN dead-heated for second with the top choice last time. He showed good speed and stayed on at the business end. The son of Horizon merits healthy respect.
HAPPY HOLLY ran a good race when second in the Listed East Cape Fillies Nursery last time. She challenged strongly all the way to the line, but found one too good in the form of Splicethemainbrace who has come out and won again since. The daughter of Heavenly Blue should give the males a run for their money.
RACE 7
FAIRY KNIGHT is a winner of his last four starts, the latest of which was in the Listed East Cape Guineas. The son of Global View should have no issues with the rise to 2400m. He is the class horse in the race and should take a power of beating.
WAZ WOUTER finished 3 lengths behind WOMAN’S WORLD last time. He is 3kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish. The 2400m is a slight concern, but if Craig Zackey can switch him off early, he should be right there at the finish.
JOY AND PEACE was an easy winner of the Listed East Cape Oaks last time. She should enjoy the rise to 2400m and from her good draw of three, she should give the males a run for their money.
RACE 8
MAGICAL MIDLANDS won a good race in his last start over this C&D. He raced from a handy position and quickened away from the field. The blinkers have done the trick on the 6yo gelding and with just 54.5kgs on his back, he can follow up with another victory.
CENTRAL CITY finished 1.5 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish.
DOWSER showed good guts when winning his last start over 1600m on this course. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. He steps up to 2000m and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he should be competitive
