RACE 1
This is a weak Open Maiden contest for the girls and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is ENCHANTED SKY from the Gavin Smith stable. She showed good improvement in her local debut over this distance on the turf. She showed good speed and stayed on to finish fourth. She is having her first run for Gavin Smith and in this field, she can shed her maiden tag.
CAPTIVATE is better than her last start on the turf. Her two efforts prior to that on this course were encouraging. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
RAIN BIRD has shown improvement in each of her outings to date. She should have finished closer to the winner last time as she brushed the rail at the 500m mark. The daughter of Act Of War is the stable elect with Chase Maujean in the saddle and with just 54kgs on her back, she should have more to come.
RACE 2
MALDANO stayed on strongly when second over 1600m on this course last time. The manner in which he finished off his race that day suggests that he will love the rise to 2200m. The son of The United States carries a handy galloping mass of 52kgs and with Muzi Yeni in the saddle, he may be the one to side with.
MILITARY MAN is the stable companion of the top choice. He finished 0.5 lengths behind WOLFRAM last time. He is 3kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He is likely to race on the speed and may be hard to peg back.
WOLFRAM has decent recent form lines to his credit. The manner in which he finishes off his races suggests that he will be suited to the 2200m. With a bit of luck in running, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.
RACE 3
AND WE DANCED was not disgraced when fifth in the Non-Black Type Nelson Mandela Bay Racing Poly Challenge 1600. The manner in which she stayed on at the finish was encouraging. She has won twice and finished third once from four starts over this C&D. She is back against her own sex and can notch up her ninth career victory.
DEFINITELY MAYBE ran a fair race in the Non-Black Type Betway Wedgewood Handicap last time. She is unbeaten from two starts over this C&D. She always gives of her best and merits healthy respect.
CHRONICLESOFNANIA fought hard for her last victory over 1400m on the turf. Two of her three career victories have come over this distance. She carries a handy galloping mass of 54kgs and should give a good account of herself.
RACE 4
SEQUOIA’S last two starts have been good. He stayed on when third over this C&D last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He takes a slight drop- in class and from pole position, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
RED WILLIAM kept finding to win his last start over this distance on the turf. He is likely to use his early gate speed to overcome the widest draw and will be hard to peg back.
DAWN OF A NEW ERA raced from a handy position over 1300m last time, moved up but was caught late by Global Ally who has come out and won again since. He is in a good space and merits healthy respect.
RACE 5
TRANSACT was a tad disappointing over 1400m on the turf last time, but is better than the outing suggests. His penultimate run when third in the Non-Black Type Betway Insurebet Cradock Place Stakes was eye-catching. He takes a slight drop-in class and with Luyolo Mxothwa back in the saddle, he can return to winning ways.
COOL WINTER won a good race over this C&D last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. He takes a rise in class, but is in a good space and can follow up.
GREAT MELODY stayed on when third over 1000m on this course last time. If repeating that effort in this field, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.
Race 6
NOTORIX was an easy winner in his last start over this C&D. He raced from a handy position, quickened up well and drew clear of the opposition. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He received a six-pound penalty for that victory. From his good draw of two, he can follow up.
CRUZADOR finished 2.5 lengths behind TIMBAVATI RIVER last time. He is 3kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. If confirming his recent improvement, he should be competitive.
TIMBAVATI RIVER won a good race in his last start over 1300m on this course. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He jumps from a good draw of four and merits healthy respect.
RACE 7
IRON BARK is a winner of his last four starts on the Hollywoodbets Greyville Polytrack. It must be noted that the form of his last outing has been franked. He makes the trip from the Western Cape and if all went well with his travels, he can notch up his ninth career victory.
SLIM JANNIE ran a fair race in the Non-Black Type Betway Insurebet Cradock Place Stakes last time. He has won three times, finished second once and third once from nine starts over this distance. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
TEATRO stayed on when third over 1400m on this course last time. He has no issues with the drop to 1000m and must be included in all bets.
RACE 8
IDABELLE set the pace over this distance on the turf last time and stayed on to finish second. She jumps from pole position and if confirming her recent improvement, she can go one better in this line- up.
STATE OF MIND finished 0.05 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line.
