Race 1
MASTER CASPER won a game race over this distance on the Turffontein Inside course. He was slow into stride, but ran on well to get the better of Wolf Mountain. He would have come on from the outing and should strip a much fitter horse. If suited to this course, he can follow up with another victory.
IMPACT INVESTOR was in need of his last start in the Grade 3 tabGOLD Godolphin Barb Stakes. He was an easy winner of his penultimate effort over 1100m at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth. He will strip much fitter for this outing and should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
THE SPECIALIST was given a peach of a ride when winning his last start over 1200m on this course. The drop to 1000m is a slight concern but he is coming along the right way and merits healthy respect.
Race 2
VIBE SA should have won his last start over 1160m at Turffontein as the pilot dropped his crop at the 350m mark. The son of Just As Well is having his peak run today and should be cherry-ripe. He has cracked pole position and if all went well with his travels, he can go one better.
DAPPER has produced three good efforts to date. He should have finished closer to the winner last time as he hung inwards in the final 300m. If not too green around the turn, he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.
THE MIKADO is better than his last start as he was reported to be changing strides in running. His debut effort when second over 1000m on this course was eye-catching. The 11-week break would have done him the world of good and if fit, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 3
WHISTLE THE TUNE ran a decent race in her local debut over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. It must be noted that Quid Pro Quo has come out and won a Grade 1 since. The daughter of Captain Of All gets the cheekpieces fitted for the first time which should keep her mind on the task at hand. She should have no issues with the rise to 1400m and from her good draw of three, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.
YOU BRING ME JOY won a good race in her last start over this C&D. She is drawn widest of all but Kabelo Matsunyane is likely to use her early gate speed to get across without using up too much energy.
DARK WINTER stayed on when second in the Grade 3 tabGOLD Strelitzia Stakes last time. She finished 2.25 lengths behind the second choice in her penultimate run. She is 0.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result.
Race 4
GREAT PLAINS is a winner of his last two starts. He ran on well when winning his last start over this C&D. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The son of Danon Platina is the form horse in this contest and with a bit of luck from the widest draw, he can notch up the hat-trick.
FRENCH BOLT won a good race over 1000m at the Vaal last time. Despite jumping inwards at the start, he showed good pace and fought hard all the way to the line. The son of Var tries the 1400m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he may be the one to cause the upset.
HAVANA MOON finished 0.5 lengths behind the top choice last time. He returns from a 10-week break which would have done him the world of good. He is likely to race on the speed from his awkward draw of eight and if fit, he may be hard to peg back.
Race 5
ORIENTAL CHARM set the pace in the Grade 2 WSB 1900 last time and stayed on well to finish second. He was reported to be cut into on his right hind leg that day which makes the effort that much more encouraging. The son of Vercingetorix would have come on from the run and he should strip much fitter. He is likely to race on the speed from his wide draw of ten and may be hard to peg back.
PONTE PIETRA was doing his best work late when fourth in the Grade 2 WSB 1900 last time. The son of Vercingetorix has cracked a good draw of two and if not too far out of his ground turning for home, he should fight out the finish.
IMILENZEYOKUDUDUMA had to overcome the widest draw last time and stayed on at the business end. He finished second in his only attempt over this distance. From a handy draw of five, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 6
DOUBLE GRAND SLAM was not disgraced when second in the Grade 2 WSB Fillies Guineas last time. She fought hard, but found one too good in the form of Rascova. The daughter of Vercingetorix drops back to her favourite distance. She has won three times and finished second once from as many starts over 1400m. She does have an awkward draw of eight to overcome but she gets the services of Richard Fourie who will give her all the necessary assistance from the saddle.
HUMDINGER is better than her last start. Her penultimate run when second behind Gimme A Nother in the Grade 1 TAB Empress Club Stakes catches the eye. The daughter of What A Winter won this race last year and she can retain her title.
CELTIC RUMOURS hails from the in-form Sean Tarry stable. She ran a good race when second over this distance at Turffontein last time. The daughter of Vercingetorix was not disgraced when fourth in the Grade 2 TAB Hawaii Stakes in her penultimate run. She jumps from a good draw of three and can finish in the placings.
Race 7
This is a quality Grade 1 Hollywoodbets Gold Challenge field. SANDRINGHAM SUMMIT from the David Nieuwenhuizen stable is the first selection. He was caught late when second to Green With Envy in the Grade 2 WSB Guineas last time. Green With Envy has come out and won the Grade 1 Daily News 2000 since. Gavin Lerena may be able to place him closer to the pace from his good draw of four and if ridden with patience turning for home, he may be the horse to beat.
MAIN DEFENDER was an easy winner of the Grade 1 Wilgerbosdrift H F Oppenheimer Horse Chestnut Stakes last time. The son of Pathfork has not had the ideal preparation for this race but he is a quality gelding, and merits healthy respect.
SEE IT AGAIN did not enjoy a slow pace in the Grade 1 WSB Cape Town Met last time. He is ideally better suited to further and this run will bring him on nicely for the Grade 1 Hollywoodbets Durban July. However, he is no stranger to winning over this distance and should be finishing off his race strongly.
Race 8
TEFLON MAN should have finished much closer to COMMON GROUNDS last time as he was baulked for a run between the 400m mark and 50m mark. He is 3.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. The son of Querari should enjoy racing around the turn and with luck in running, he can notch up his fourth-career victory.
KING OF THE GAULS is a winner of his last two starts. It must be noted that multiple horses from his last form line have come out and won since. He is in a good space and merits healthy respect.
TROPPO VELOCE has good consistent form lines to her credit. She returns from a 15-week break which would have done her the world of good. If not in need of this outing, she should give the males a run for their money.
Race 9
IZIBULO is better than her last start over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. Her debut effort when third over 1000m catches the eye. The daughter of Lancaster Bomber is bred to love the rise to 1800m. She carries a handy galloping mass of 55kgs and if not too green around the turn, she can win a race of this nature.
NAUTICAL LANDING’S last three starts have been good. The manner in which she finished off her last outing suggests that she will love the extra furlong on offer. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
SWEETER THAN HONEY has consistent form lines to her name. She tries the 1800m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, she may be rewarded for consistency
