Race 1
This is a weak Maiden Plate and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is BENNI IN THE AREA from the Gary Rich stable. He was a tad disappointing in his last start over 1000m with the cheekpieces fitted and the headgear has been quickly removed. His best career effort has come under jockey Richard Fourie. The son of William Longsword tries the 1400m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he should shed his maiden tag.
MAGIC PRINCE is having his first run for the Tienie Prinsloo stable. His last two starts on the Highveld have been fair. He tries the polytrack for the first time and if suited to the surface, he should pose a threat.
NEW SPIRIT is an unraced son of New Predator from the Mike Miller stable with Tristan Godden in the saddle. He is related to five-time winner Crank It Up. If not in need of the run, he should start his career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to him and the other unraced entrants.
Race 2
KING BAVARIAN received a bump leaving the start last time and was unbalanced at the 1000m mark. The son of Linngari drops to the mile and the blinkers will sharpen him up. Muzi Yeni retains the ride and with luck in running, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
WILDSTYLE showed good improvement in his last start over this C&D. He set the pace that day, but found one too good in the form of George Handel. If confirming that effort, he may be hard to peg back in the run down to the line.
MISTER LINCOLN should have finished closer to the winner last time as he had to be steadied at the 350m mark. He does have an awkward draw of eight to contend with, but gets the services of Richard Fourie who will give him all the necessary assistance from the saddle.
Race 3
SHAKEN NOT STIRRED finished 0.7 lengths behind SATURN MOON last time. She is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She has finished second three times and third once from five starts over this C&D. The 6yo mare is likely to race on the speed from pole position and may be hard to peg back in the run down to the line
SATURN MOON is better than her last start at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. She has won once and finished third once from three starts over this C&D. If putting her best foot forward, she is capable of returning to winning ways.
ROWINS DREAM ran a fair race in her last start over 1400m on this course. She will enjoy the step up to the mile and can finish in the placings.
Race 4
BAYVIEW EXPRESS should have finished closer to the winner last time as he changed strides in the straight. He meets a similar type of field this afternoon and if keeping on a straight line, he can return to winning ways.
SAFE SPACE finished 3 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 3.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line. This is his first run for the Timothy Pretorius stable and he cannot be ignored.
VENGEANCE FOREVER is better than his last start. His two efforts prior to that outing were fair. Richard Fourie is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.
Race 5
MYSTERIOUS GIRL was ultra-impressive when winning her last start over 1950m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. The manner in which she drew clear of the field was eye-catching. She meets a similar field this afternoon and with S’manga Khumalo retaining the ride, she should follow up.
YOU DESERVE IT finished 4.95 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 4.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.
JUST VIRGINIA ran a good race when second over 1900m on this course last time. She set the pace and stayed on nicely at the business end. It must be noted that Reckless Love has come out and won again since. She is C&D suited and may be hard to peg back
Race 6
DONTSHOOTTHEBARMAN ran a good race when second over this C&D last time. He showed good pace and fought hard all the way to the line. The blinkers seem to have done the trick and from his good draw of two, he can go one better.
IMPARTIAL stayed on when second over this C&D last time. The blinkers have helped the 6yo gelding and with another handy galloping weight of 52kgs, he should pose a massive threat.
TRAFALGAR SQUARE finished 0.4 lengths behind the second selection last time. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line.
Race 7
TIME FOR GLORY ran a good race when second over 1400m on this course last time. She raced from a handy position, but found one too good in the form of Morgan La Fay. The daughter of Time Thief should have no issues with the drop back to 1200m. S’manga Khumalo takes the ride and she can return to winning ways in this field.
POURSOMESUGARONME has decent recent form lines to her credit. She has won once and finished second once from three starts over this distance. If jumping on terms, she should throw out a challenge to the top choice.
BRIGHT STAR stayed on when fourth over this distance at Hollywoodbets Scottsville last time. She finished 1.2 lengths behind the second choice that day. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result.
Race 8
MR MASTER STARTER raced from just off the pace in the Listed LHKIR in December Umngeni Handicap last time and stayed on to finish fourth. He is unbeaten from two starts over this C&D. The 5yo gelding is having his peak run today and should be cherry-ripe. He jumps from a good draw of three and can return to winning ways.
CAMORA showed signs of needing his comeback run over 1600m last time. He has won once, finished second twice and third once from seven starts over this distance. He carries a handy galloping mass of 54.5kgs and can feature
VASEEM showed some signs of a form return in his last start over 1000m on this course. Four of his six career victories have come over this distance. He should earn another cheque for his patrons
