Race 1
NELLIE MELBA produced an eye-catching debut effort over 1000m on this course. She should have won that day as she hung in the closing stages. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth has come out and won since. She would have come on from the run and will love the extra furlong on offer. With the natural improvement that is expected, she should be the horse to beat.
EMERALD GREEN was doing her best work late when fourth over this distance at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on debut. She found betting support that day which suggests that she was showing good work at home. She is expected to make the natural progression.
AN AIR OF PRIDE has placed in her last two starts, the latest of which was over this C&D. She is in a good space and must be included in all bets.
Race 2
MASCHERINA produced an encouraging debut effort over 1200m on this course. She ran on strongly, but was touched off by Pritti Victory. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight would have gained from the experience and will love the extra furlong on offer. With the natural improvement that is expected and with luck in running, she should find herself in the winner’s enclosure.
THE QUEEN BEE has produced three good efforts to date. She rallied late when second in her last start over this C&D. She has cracked a good draw of four and should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.
ONE SMART COOKIE was not disgraced when beaten 3.65 lengths in the Non-Black Type Beach Beauty Mile last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She returns to Maiden Company and cannot be ignored.
Race 3
SHOOT THE RAPIDS ran a decent race on debut over 1600m on this course. He lost a length at the start, but stayed on at the finish. The son of Erupt would have gained from the experience and will love the rise to 2200m. With the natural improvement that is expected, he is capable of shedding his maiden tag at the second time of asking.
ONLY A POET should have won his last start over 2400m as he had no luck in running. The widest draw is the obvious concern but with luck in running, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.
SWIFT NICKS is better than his last start as he was reported to be distressed. He finished second in his penultimate run over this C&D. If putting his best foot forward, he should be competitive.
Race 4
KHANYISA INDLELA was running on when second over 1950m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville last time. He finished 0.2 lengths behind FAMOUS AND RICH in his penultimate run. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. Richard Fourie is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.
FAMOUS AND RICH was given a peach of a ride when winning his last start over 1900m on the Polytrack. He is likely to use his early gate speed to overcome the wide draw and may be hard to peg back.
BILLY OF TEA followed up his maiden victory with a decent third-place finish over 2600m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. He should have no issues with the drop to 2000m and from pole position, can feature.
Race 5
FREE WILL stayed on nicely when fourth over 1750m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville last time. She won her maiden over this C&D, three runs ago. The daughter of Master Of My Fate jumps from a handy draw of five and can return to winning ways.
TWO MINDS finished 0.95 lengths behind DOCTOR’S ORDERS last time. She is 2kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She finished third in her only attempt over this C&D and must be included in all bets.
FASHIONIGMA finished 0.3 lengths behind DOCTOR’S ORDERS in the race referred to above. She is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and should turn the form around. With luck in running, she should be competitive.
Race 6
SLEEK AS SILK ran a good race when second over 1400m on this course last time. She raced from a handy position and stayed on nicely at the business end. She finished third in her only attempt over this C&D. Muzi Yeni retains the ride and the combination may find themselves in the winner’s enclosure.
FAIZAH finished 1.1 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 1kg better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line.
SIGN OF FATE’S last three starts have been good. She finished 0.2 lengths behind BOSNAY in her penultimate run. She is 1kg better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned.
Race 7
This is a competitive Merit Rated 67 Handicap and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is
ALL THE TIME from the Yogas Govender stable. He won a good race in his last start, in similar company. He has won twice, finished second once and third once from seven starts over this C&D. Rachel Venniker retains the ride and the combination can follow up.
BRAVE VOYAGER finished 1.4 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair in the run down to the line. He does have a wide draw to overcome, but gets the services of Gavin Lerena who will give him all the necessary assistance from the saddle.
HIGH VELOCITY finished 2 lengths behind the top choice in the race referred to above. He is 2kgs better off at the weights and should finish closer as a result.
Race 8
RUGGER BUGGER was not beaten far in his last start over this C&D, against stronger company. He has won twice, finished second once and third once from seven starts over this distance. He drops back in class and from pole position, may be the one to side with.
SUPER FAST set the pace over this C&D last time but was caught in the shadow of the post by Diani. He has won once and finished second twice from as many starts over this C&D. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
PHAKA IMALI won a good race in his last start over this distance on the Polytrack. He has won once and finished third once from four starts over this C&D. Richard Fourie retains the ride and the pair merit obvious inclusion.
Race 9
ARVERNI PRINCESS should have finished closer to the winner last time as she hung in the closing stages. She has finished third twice from as many starts over this distance. She is back against her own sex and if keeping on a straight line, she should be the one to beat.
SKY CAFE was running on when second over 1000m on this course last time. She finished third in her only attempt over this C&D. She will strip a much fitter horse today and with luck in running, she can go close.
CHELSEA FLOWER finished 2.55 lengths behind the second choice last time. She is 1kg better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result
