Race 1
WOMAN OF POWER has produced two good second place finishes to date. She was caught late over this C&D last time. The daughter of Vercingetorix would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. With luck from her awkward draw of nine, she should be the horse to beat.
SAHARA DAWN ran a fair race on debut over this distance at the Vaal, against winners. She returns from a 13-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
SHINE IN MEMPHIS‘ last start can be ignored as she was reported to be not striding out. Her penultimate run when second over this C&D was encouraging. If putting her best foot forward, she should be involved at the finish.
Race 2
BEAMONESQUE produced a promising debut effort over 1000m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. He moved up well and fought hard all the way to the line. It must be noted that Sovereign State has come out and won again since. The son of Rafeef would have gained from the experience and will love the extra furlong on offer. With the natural improvement that is expected, he should be the horse to beat.
ETHANATOR took on winners in the Non-Black Type Bloodstock SA Sales Cup last time. He returns from a 15-week break, during which time he was gelded. The son of Rafeef has plenty of scope and is one of the leading contenders.
MIZZEN SAIL‘S last two starts have been fair. She finished 2.5 lengths behind the second choice, three runs ago. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result.
Race 3
RED HOT ROSE is better than her last start in the Grade 1 Allan Robertson Championship. She returns from a 19-week break which may have done her the world of good. Her form prior to that outing was good and she looks to have class about her. The daughter of Flower Alley is the best weighted runner in this contest and she should give the males a run for their money.
BARBARESCO was an easy winner when shedding his maiden tag over this C&D. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He is a progressive type and merits healthy respect.
DREAMLAND finished 1.25 lengths behind SUPER AWESOME last time. He is 5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned.
Race 4
COLDHARDSTARE ran a decent race against male company in her last start over this C&D. She is having her peak run today and should be cherry-ripe. The daughter of What A Winter meets the right field and she is capable of returning to winning ways.
EMERALD PRINCESS fought hard for her last victory over 1600m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. She should have no issues with the drop to 1200m and can follow up if fit.
WINTER GREETING is the stable companion of the second choice. She showed a lot of ability in her first three career outings. The daughter of What A Winter is carded to race on 12 October 2023 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.
Race 5
NAPOLEON has good consistent form lines to his credit. He was outrun late by Eiffel Tower in his last start over this distance at the Vaal. He meets similar company this afternoon and with Muzi Yeni in the saddle, he may be the one to side with.
NOTHINGELSEMATTERS dead heated when winning his last start over 1800m on this course. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. He takes a slight drop-in class and must be included in all bets.
TURBO POWER followed up his maiden victory with a fair sixth-place finish over 1200m on this course. It must be noted that Meteoric has come out and won again since. He will strip a much fitter horse and will love the rise to the mile.
Race 6
MELECH was given a peach of a ride when winning his last start over 1700m at the Vaal. He returns from a well-deserved 13-week break. The son of William Longsword won his only attempt on this course. He carries another handy galloping mass of 54kgs and will be mowing down the frontrunners.
BILLY BOWLEGS is better than his last start in the Grade 1 Hollywoodbets Durban July. He returns from a 15-week break and is having his first run for the Brett Crawford stable. He won his only attempt over this C&D. S’manga Khumalo takes the ride on his season debut and he merits healthy respect.
SAFE PASSAGE returns from an 11-week break which would have done him the world of good. He has won four times and finished third twice from eight starts over this distance. He is classy and cannot be ignored.
Race 7
APACHE FIGHTER‘S last two starts have been good. She was running on when second over 2000m at the Vaal last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She finished 0.05 lengths behind OPERA GLASS in her penultimate run. She is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She is having her peak run today and can return to winning ways.
RARATONGA ROSE finished 1.5 lengths behind OPERA GLASS last time. She is 2kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She has won twice and finished second twice from six starts on this course. The daughter of Flower Alley will be mowing down the frontrunners.
CRIMSON PRINCESS has good consistent form lines to her credit. It must be noted that the form of her last outing has been franked. She tries the 2200m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, she should be competitive.
Race 8
RUNNING RIFLES has top recent form lines to his credit. He raced from a handy position over 1450m last time, but was outrun late by Captain Peg. He won his penultimate start over this C&D. He is likely to use his early gate speed to get across without using up too much energy and may be hard to peg back.
RIVER ROMEO was an easy winner of his last start over 2000m on this course. He finished 6.35 lengths behind the top choice in his penultimate run. He is 1.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may battle to turn the form around.
RAISEAHALLELUJAH stayed on when fourth in the Grade 3 World Pool Gold Cup last time. He has won twice and finished second once from five starts on this course. If not in need of the run, he should give a good account of himself.
Race 9
MAGICAL FLIGHT has decent recent form lines to her credit. She raced from a handy position over 1900m on the Hollywoodbets Greyville polytrack last time, but found one too good in the form of Crazy Blues. She has won twice, finished second once and third once from seven starts on this course. She jumps from a good draw of two and may be the one to side with.
SHARAPOVA has very good consistent form lines to her name. It must be noted that the horse that finished second in her last outing has come out and won since. She carries a handy galloping mass of 54.5kgs and should pose a massive threat.
TAMIL TIGRESS followed up her maiden victory with a good third-place finish over 1600m on the Vaal Classic course. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She does have a wide draw to overcome, but gets the services of S’manga Khumalo who will give her all the necessary assistance from the saddle
