Race 1
FETCHING FLYER has shown good improvement in each of her outings to date. She raced from a handy position over this distance last time but was outrun late by Silver Flare. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The daughter of The United States is a progressive type and in this field, she should be the one to beat.
GLAMOROUS LADY has run two fair races to date. Despite jumping outwards at the start last time, she stayed on to finish third. The daughter of New Predator will love the rise to the mile and she may be the one to fill the exacta spot.
TIK TOK ADDICTION finished 0.25 lengths behind the second choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the finish.
Race 2
THE SPECIALIST ran a very good race when second over 1600m in the Grade 1 Premier’s Champion Stakes last time. The son of The United States is having his first run for the Sean Tarry stable. He should have no issues with the drop to 1200m. He is the class horse in this contest and should take a power of beating.
MOUNT PINATUBO is better than his last start in a Grade 1 as the jockey reported something to be amiss. His form prior to that outing was good. The son of Erupt may be the one to complete the exacta.
BEAMONESQUE has shown signs of needing his last two starts. He won his only attempt over this C&D at the second time of asking. He will be at peak fitness and can show improvement.
Race 3
THE CANE TRAIN is better than his last start as he was reported to be distressed. He finished second in his previous two efforts. It is encouraging that Gavin Lerena retains the ride and in this line-up, he should be the one to beat.
ROLL OF THE DICE finished 2.3 lengths behind GAMER last time. He is 5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned.
GAMER showed good improvement in his last start over this distance at the Vaal. If repeating that effort in this field, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 4
FLAG BEARER finished 2.75 lengths behind EIGER SANCTION last time. He is 4kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He is likely to race on the speed from barrier three and may be hard to peg back.
EIGER SANCTION was an easy winner of his last start over 2000m on this course. He received a five-pound penalty for that victory. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
CALLABURN was running on after a slow start over 1500m at the Vaal last time. He has finished second once and third once from three starts over this C&D. If getting away to a clean start, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.
Race 5
SALENIO PENINSULA won a good race on debut over 1000m at Turffontein. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. The daughter of Vercingetorix takes on stronger but she could be anything and may be up to the task at hand.
BOOM BOOM is better than her last start against stronger company. The drop to 1200m is no concern as she has won over this C&D previously. She takes a drop in class and is one of the leading contenders.
MIX THE MAGIC finished 1.25 lengths behind DANCING DORA last time. She is 1.5kgs worse off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish. She is carded to race on 3 September 2024 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.
Race 6
HIERKOMMIEBOKKIE is unbeaten from two starts for the Corne Spies stable. She set the pace over 1450m last time and drew clear in the closing stages. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. She is likely to race on the speed and can bring up the hat- trick.
QUEEN OF FIRE ran a fair race over 1400m last time. She returns from a 16-week break which may have done her the world of good. She carries a handy galloping mass of 52kgs and if fit, she should pose a threat.
SECOND BREATH has improved in her last two starts. All three of her career victories have come over this distance. Gavin Lerena is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.
Race 7
UNZEN won a good race in his last start over 1400m on the Standside course, despite over racing in the early stages. He has won once and finished second twice from six starts on this course. He comes into this race with match fitness on his side which will stand him in good stead. Gavin Lerena retains the ride and the pair can follow up.
ZINOVI was doing his best work late when third over 1200m last time. He has won once and finished third once from three starts over this C&D. He will strip a much fitter horse and is one of the leading contenders.
PUERTO MANZANO returns from a 19-week break. He has won three times, finished second once and third once from six starts on this course. This will be a prep run for bigger races but he has the class to finish in the money.
Race 8
GOLDEN PAVILION was a tad disappointing over 1400m on the Standside course last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He has won once and finished third once from four starts over this C&D. He takes a slight drop in class and Gavin Lerena may be able to get the best out of him where it matters most.
MOONLIGHT TRADER finished 2 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result.
COMING IN HOT was an easy winner of his last start over 1200m on this course. Two of his five career victories have come on this track. He is in a good space and can follow up with another victory
