Race 1

SHARAPOVA returns from the Western Cape after producing two encouraging efforts. However, the daughter of Querari may be better suited to the right-hand turn. She jumps from a good draw of three and in this type of field, she should shed her maiden tag.

MO THE MAN was settled at the rear of the field last time and ran on at the business end. The son of Royal Mo is progressive and should the top choice fluff her lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

FREE MOVEMENT was reported to be distressed after his last outing. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. If finding the form of his debut run, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 2

RAFFLES is the best bet on the programme. The son of Time Thief stayed on at the finish over 1400m last time, but found one too good in the form of Unzen. He finished third in his only attempt over this C&D. He is the best weighted runner in this contest and from pole position, should take a power of beating.

ARIVIDICIO is better than his last start in the Non-Black Type Egoli Mile. He has won once and finished third once from as many starts over this C&D. He has won under Kabelo Matsunyane in the past and cannot be ignored.

FAST LOVE was a tad disappointing in his last start on the Standside course. He has won once, finished second once and third once from five starts over this C&D. He is likely to race on the speed and on best form shown, he should be hard to peg back.

Race 3

IMPERSONATION has shown signs of needing her last two starts after a short 10-week break. It must be noted that multiple horses from her last form line have come out and won since. She is having her peak run and with Keagan de Melo retaining the ride, she can shed her maiden tag.

ISLAND BEAUTY was her own worst enemy over this distance last time as she overraced in the early stages which caused her to clip heels. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. If Kabelo Matsunyane is able to switch her off early, she should be competitive.

LADY ZULTANITE showed good improvement in her last start with the blinkers fitted. She received a bump leaving the start, but stayed on at the finish. Piere Strydom steps into the saddle and the pair merit respect.

Race 4

QUEEN OF SMOKE was not beaten far in the Grade 3 Three Troikas Stakes last time. Her penultimate run over 1400m on the Standside course catches the eye. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight should be at home over the mile. With a bit of luck from barrier ten, she can return to winning ways.

BUREAU DES LEGENDE finished 0.25 lengths behind CRIMSON PRINCESS last time. She is 2kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She is carded to race on 26 February 2023 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.

CRIMSON PRINCESS was doing her best work late when fifth over 1400m last time. She finished second in her only attempt over this C&D. She has cracked pole position and if jumping on terms, she should be involved in the fight to the finish.

Race 5

INDUS KNIGHT received a bump leaving the start last time, but the manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging. The manner in which he finishes off his races suggests that he will be suited to the 1800m. He takes a drop in class and can return to winning ways under Gavin Lerena.

LITTLE PRINCE ran on strongly late when second over 2000m on the Vaal Classic course last time. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. If not too far out of his ground turning for home, he should run a big race.

LADY CALAVERA is a winner of her last two starts after returning from a 48-week break. It must be noted that multiple horses from her last form line have come out and won since. She is in a good space and can notch up the hat-trick.

Race 6

ROLL OVER REDROVER followed up his maiden victory with a good second-place finish over 1400m on the Standside course. Apprentice Siyanda Sosibo takes the 2.5kgs off his back and if this run has not come too soon, he can notch up his second career victory.

GOLDEN PROSPECT is better than his last two starts. The son of Pomodoro is nicely weighted in this contest and on best form shown, he is capable of returning to winning ways.

FUTUREWOLFF has decent consistent form lines to his credit. He finished second in his only attempt over this C&D. The son of Futura carries another handy galloping mass of 52.5kgs and should earn another cheque for his patrons.

Race 7

ROBERT BURNS ran a good race when fourth in his last start over this distance on the Vaal Classic course. He was reported to be distressed after that outing. The son of Twice Over meets a similar line-up this afternoon and with a bit of luck from his awkward draw of nine, he can go one better.

IRONTAIL ran a fair race in his last start over this distance on the Vaal Classic course. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. Marco van Rensburg steps back into the saddle and he should pose a massive threat.

SAGE KING ran a fair race in his last start over 1600m on the Standside course. He continues to drop in the ratings and may have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 8

BARD OF AVON showed good signs of a form return in his last start over 1400m on the Standside course. He was reported to be not striding out that day. The form of that race has been franked. He has finished third in both his efforts on this course. The son of Var returns to Handicap Company and may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.

CABINET SHUFFLE ran a fair race in the Listed Wolf Power 1600 last time. He won his penultimate effort over this distance. Apprentice Siyanda Sosibo takes the 2.5kgs off his back and he is one of the leading contenders.

MELECH followed up his maiden win with a good victory over 1200m on the Vaal Classic course. The son of William Longsword will enjoy the step up to 1450m. He has plenty of scope and if not in need of the run, he can notch up the hat-trick.

Race 9

SOUTH BOY finished 1.4 lengths behind STORMY SEAS last time. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights and there should not be much separating the pair in the run down to the line. If getting away to a clean start, he can notch up his second career victory.

STORMY SEAS ran on powerfully when winning his last start over this distance on the Vaal Classic course. He has finished second three times and third once from five starts over this C&D. The son of Time Thief will be mowing down the frontrunners.

THERE SHE GOES finished 0.5 lengths behind LAETITIA’S ANGEL last time. She is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned
