Race 1
SHINTO SHRINE has produced two good second place finishes to date. He challenged strongly over 1400m last time, but was outrun by Grand Crescendo. The son of Danon Platina is a progressive type and from pole position, he should find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
TOKYO MEDAGLIA ran a decent race on debut over 1160m on the Standside course. He lost a length leaving the start, understandably raced green but stayed on at the finish. The son of William Longsword would have gained from the experience and should love the rise to 1450m. With the natural improvement that is expected, he should be competitive.
SERRANO has finished third in both his runs to date. He raced from a handy position over this C&D last time and stayed on at the finish. He has cracked a good draw of four and must be included in all bets
Race 2
EXCEEDINGLY GLAM is an unraced daughter of What A Winter from the Sean Tarry stable with Gavin Lerena in the saddle. She is related to five-time winner The Contractor. If not in need of this outing, she should start her career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her and the other unraced entrants.
JILTED has produced two fair runs to date. The daughter of Fire Away should have no issues with the rise to 1450m. With a bit of luck from the widest draw, she should be the first raced runner past the post.
EXECUTRIX is the stable companion of the top choice and she is a daughter of Vercingetorix. She is related to two-time winner Reny. If not too green in running, she should give a good account of herself.
Race 3
KEY WORKER produced a promising debut effort over 1450m on this course. She was slow into stride, understandably raced green but the manner in which she stayed on at the finish was encouraging. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight will love the rise to the mile and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should be the one to beat.
OLIVIA’S WAY was doing her best work late when third over 1400m at the Vaal last time. She is a progressive type and should enjoy the extra furlong on offer. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
THE CROWN set the pace over this C&D last time but was touched off by Oxalis Gold. Kaidan Brewer is likely to adopt the same tactics from barrier two and she may be hard to peg back.
Race 4
HAT’S QUEEN produced an encouraging debut effort over 1450m on this course. She was green in running but stayed on nicely to finish third. The daughter of Hat Puntano would have gained from the experience and should love the rise to the mile. She carries a light mass of 49kgs and should give the males a run for their money.
FESTIVAL OF MAGIC was running on when second over 1400m last time. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. Richard Fourie is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.
MASTER TIK TOK ran on from last when third over 1800m last time. Muzi Yeni retains the ride and if not too far out of his ground turning for home, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 5
PRINCESS ILARIA ran on strongly late when third over 1400m at the Vaal last time. She has won once and finished third once from five starts on this course. She is back against her own sex today and will be mowing down the frontrunners.
VOLARE E MAMBO finished 0.25 lengths behind ZENOBIA’S GOLD last time. She is 1kg better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She is in a good space and is one of the leading contenders.
ZENOBIA’S GOLD fought hard for her last victory over 1600m on this course. She finished 0.75 lengths behind the top choice in her penultimate run. She is 2kgs worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result.
Race 6
CAPE LIGHTS stayed on when third over 1450m on this course last time. She has won twice, finished second three times and third once from nine starts on this course. It is encouraging that Gavin Lerena retains the ride and she can notch up her fourth-career victory.
MIA FIORE finished 0.5 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the finish.
MAGICAL FLIGHT ran a fair race in her last start over 1800m on this course. She won her only attempt over this C&D. She is likely to race on the speed from her wide draw of eight and may be hard to peg back.
Race 7
UNZEN stayed on when fifth behind Lucky Lad last time. He has won once and finished second twice from five starts on this course. The son of Erupt is a versatile type and with luck in running, he can return to winning ways.
FOREVER MINE has finished third in his last two starts. He has won twice and finished second twice from six starts over this C&D. The 6-year-old gelding is likely to race on the speed and may be hard to peg back.
MRS GERIATRIX is better than her last start as the jockey reported something to be amiss. She won her only attempt over this C&D. On best form shown, she should give the males a run for their money.
Race 8
MIDNIGHT GEM’S last three starts have been good. It must be noted that the form of her last outing has been franked. Seven of her eight career victories have come over this distance. She takes a drop in class and with Muzi Yeni retaining the ride, she may be the one to side with.
CHASING HAPPINESS stayed on when third over this distance at the Vaal last time. She is having her peak run today and will be cherry-ripe. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
SIGRID SWING showed some signs of a form return in her last start over this distance at the Vaal. She is back in Handicap Company and may be the one to cause the upset.
Race 9
JUST BE NICE has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. She was reported to be not striding out in her last start. She has won once and finished third three times from seven starts on this course. The 5-year-old mare drops back in class and may be rewarded for consistency.
RIDE ON ran on from far back when second in her last start over 1000m on this course. She would have come on from the outing and should strip much fitter. She should be closer turning for home from her good draw of two and is one of the leading contenders.
HAPPY ANALIA finished 1.4 lengths behind the second choice last time. She is 1kg better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish
