Race 1
BASINGSTOKE showed very good improvement when third over this C&D last time. She raced from just off the pace and stayed on at the finish. The daughter of Admiral Kitten is a progressive type and she is the stable elect with Phelisile Mongqawa in the saddle. In this type of field, she should be the one to beat.
BELLISSIVAR finished 0.5 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result. She is a battling maiden and may be the one to fill the exacta spot.
CYBER SPIRIT showed massive improvement when 2.25 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may battle to turn the form around. Julius Horing is booked to ride and there should be more to come.
Race 2
KWAGGA BLITZ is better than his last start as he received a bump leaving the start. His penultimate run when second over this distance at Turffontein, catches the eye. Piere Strydom is booked to ride which is encouraging. He is having his peak run today and may be the one to side with.
POTBERRIE finished 0.25 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the finish. He has been gelded which may have done the trick.
PACIFIC was a tad disappointing over this C&D last time. His previous two efforts at Turffontein were encouraging. The combination of St John Gray and Muzi Yeni are in fine form. He may be hard to peg back in the run down to the line.
Race 3
TAMARISK TREE showed good signs of a form return over 1800m on the Turffontein Inside course last time. After a slow start, he was settled at the rear of the field and ran on well. Gavin Lerena is booked to ride from a good draw of four. If confirming his recent improvement, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
SAVANNAH STORM returns from a 12-week break which may have done him the world of good. The 8yo gelding has been competing against stronger company. Piere Strydom takes the ride and if fit, it would not be a shock to see him win.
THUNEE PLAYA was given a peach of a ride when winning his last start over this distance. He received a four-pound penalty for that victory. He is likely to be settled near the rear of the field from his wide draw and will be mowing down the frontrunners.
Race 4
OLIVIA’S WAY won a good race in her last start over this C&D. She ran on powerfully to get the better of Linganomore. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. She does take on stronger, but is a filly with ability and she carries a handy galloping mass of 53kgs. The daughter of Pathfork can follow up with another victory.
APACHE FIGHTER is the stable companion of the top choice. It must be noted that the horse that finished second in her last start has come out and won since. She has won once and finished second once from as many starts over this C&D. The 6yo mare merits healthy respect.
ARIEL’S JET’S last three starts have been good. She finished 1.25 lengths behind the top choice, three runs ago. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result.
Race 5
ONE RELIGION stayed on nicely at the finish over 1400m last time but found one too good in the form of Risky Business. The daughter of Silvano finished second in her only attempt over this distance. She would have come on from her last outing and should strip much fitter. In this type of field, she can go one better.
LOVE TAP was an easy winner of her last start over 1600m, against male company. Despite stumbling leaving the start, she quickened up well and drew clear of the opposition. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. She is back against her own sex and merits healthy respect.
FAR REACHING was an easy winner when shedding her maiden tag over 1600m on the Turffontein Inside course last time. The daughter of Vercingetorix should have no issues with the rise to 1800m. She does take on stronger, but has scope and should be up to the task at hand.
Race 6
AMERICAN REBEL ran a decent race when third over 2000m on this course last time. He lost two lengths leaving the start, but stayed on to finish third. He has finished third in both his efforts on this course. The son of Rebel King takes a drop in class and if getting away to a clean start, he should be right there.
SAFE SPACE was a tad disappointing over 2000m on the Turffontein Inside course last time. It must be noted that Eiger Sanction has come out and won again since. He is a horse that enjoys a longer run-in and is a threat.
JAPANESE MAPLE finished 0.95 lengths behind the second selection last time. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish. He is a solid back up for the Weichong Marwing yard.
Race 7
GREEN FLASH won a good race in her last start over this C&D. The manner in which she quickened up and won going away was encouraging. She received a six-pound penalty for that victory. Gavin Lerena retains the ride and she can notch up her fourth-career victory.
VIRGINIA BEACH finished 4 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 2kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result. She has finished second twice and third twice from as many starts over this C&D. She should be hard to peg back in the run down to the line.
ICE STAR ran a fair race in the Non-Black Type The Lady’s Stakes last time. She would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. Apprentice Trent Mayhew takes the 2.5kgs off her back which will assist her cause. The daughter of William Longsword cannot be ignored.
Race 8
IN THE ETHER was doing her best work late when third over this distance last time. She has won once, finished second once and third twice from eight starts over this C&D. The 6yo mare is back against her own sex. Philasande Mxoli returns to the saddle and she will be mowing down the frontrunners.
SMASHING finished 0.15 lengths behind the top selection last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the finish. She carries a handy galloping mass of 54.5kgs and should pose a threat.
MICKE’S BOMB is better than her last two starts as she has had excuses. Both her career victories have come over this distance. The daughter of Lancaster Bomber runs well for Muzi Yeni. She is carded to race on 21 September 2024 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored
