There has been great excitement on the golf circuit for the past seven days, with the US Open taking centre stage last weekend. However, the action doesn’t stop for the leading players, as the Travelers Championship takes place this weekend at TPC at River Highlands.
Travelers Championship Preview
The Travelers Championship has been an annual event on the PGA Tour for the past 69 years. The event attracts some of the biggest players in the world, and that will be no different this year. It has been staged at TPC at River Highlands since 1984. The event is back in its usual spot in June in 2021. It was previously moved in 2016 due to the Olympic Games, which meant that it was staged in August rather than its typical date.
Bubba Watson has been the most successful player in this event over the past ten years, as he has won three times during that spell. His last victory came back in 2018. Chez Reavie won the event in 2019 by four strokes, which was the widest winning margin since D. A. Weibring won by the same margin in 1996. It was a much closer affair last year, as Dustin Johnson won by a single stroke from Kevin Streelman with a score of 261.
BetXChange Leading Players
It promises to be an exciting weekend of golf action, and that is highlighted by the competitiveness in the BetXChange betting market. The sportsbook currently has Bryson DeChambeau and Dustin Johnson as the two leading chances. DeChambeau has won two events in 2021, and has won eight PGA Tour events throughout his career.
He has achieved six top ten finishes so far this season, and is on course for his best season for PGA victories, as he is just one away from the three victories that he recorded in 2018. DeChambeau fell away in the end in the US Open last weekend, as he eventually finished in a tie for 26th, despite being in contention going into the final round.
Johnson will be one of the easier players to support this weekend, as he has already proven that he has what it takes to win this event. Johnson won the event 12 months ago, and finished in a tie for 19th last weekend in the US Open. Johnson won the Masters last year, which was his 24th PGA Tour victory. He has finished in the top ten on five occasions already this season.
Other players that are prominent in the betting for the Travelers Championship this weekend include Brooks Koepka, Patrick Cantlay and Paul Casey.
Travelers Championship Prediction
It is hard to look past the leading players in the betting when it comes to this event this weekend. However, we would be willing to give Chez Reavie a chance at a bigger price. The 39-year-old has a proven record at this event, as he won the event in 2019. He has also missed the cut on just two occasions in his visits to the tournament. He could be one that could be best placed to mount a challenge.
Pick: Chez Reavie each way at 140.00
