Morocco v Tanzania

Morocco topped Group A, unbeaten with 7 points, Mali were second with 3 and Comoros and Zambia earned 2 points each and have exited the tournament.

Brahim Diaz scored in all 3 of Morocco’s group matches, comfortable wins over Comoros (2-0) and most recently Zambia (3-0) either side a 1-1 draw with Mali. The draw with Mali ended Morocco’s world record streak of 19 consecutive wins, Mali scored from the penalty spot so the hosts have yet to concede from open play.

Although they earned just the 2 points Tanzania came in third behind Nigeria (9 points) and Tunisia (4 points) in Group C which saw Uganda (1 point) eliminated.

They started with a 1-1 draw with Uganda who missed a spot kick in the 90th minute before they went down 2-1 to Nigeria, making the Super Eagles work hard for victory. In their final group match Tanzania were a goal down to Tunisia at half time but they made it 1-1 early in the second half and as that outcome suited both nations in terms of qualifying the game drifted to a tame end with no further scoring.

The Verdict

These teams met in World cup qualifying which saw Morocco win all 8 of their group matches to qualify automatically for the 2026 Finals whilst Tanzania were a distant third. Morocco won both head to heads by a 2-0 scoreline with the most recent clash coming in Morocco in March this year.

Let’s go with Morocco to score 2-3 in their multi goals market

South Africa v Cameroon

With 6 points Bafana qualified as runners up to Egypt (7 points) in Group B where Angola (2 points) and Zimbabwe (1 point) were eliminated.

Lyle Foster chalked up an assist and the winning goal as Bafana started with a 2-1 win over Angola with Appollis also on target. The same duo were also on target in South Africa’s final group match which eventually ended in a 3-0 victory with Moremi also opening his goals account. In between those wins Bafana lost their second group match 1-0 to Egypt and given their opponents were reduced to 10 men for the whole of the second half it was something of a disappointment that they couldn’t find a way back into it.

Cameroon and Ivory Coast both finished Group F with 7 points but Cameroon had had to settle for the runners up spot on goals scored. Mozambique (3 points) were third and also qualified whilst Gabon failed to earn a point and have returned home.

Cameroon came flying out of the blocks in their opening group match against Gabon and scored in just the fifth minute lead and that’s the way it stayed. In their second group match they played out a 1-1 draw with Ivory Coast and they finished with a come from behind 2-1 win against Mozambique.

The Verdict

A tough test for Bafana but I believe they will be competitive. It could well be tight and I wouldn’t be surprised to see this going into extra time.
