Monday’s English Premier League action sees Sunderland host Everton at the Stadium of Light and the match result betting has a wide open look to it.

Prices quoted are correct at the time of publication but subject to change.

Sunderland

Sunderland’s 2-1 win at Chelsea last week saw them finish the round in fourth place with 17 points from 9 league outings. Depending on how Sunday’s results go a win in this final game in the round would move them into the top 3 and possibly as high as second. Sunderland are unbeaten at home this season with 3 wins and 1 draw. West Ham (3-0), Brentford (2-1) and Wolves (2-0) have all lost whilst Aston Villa had to settle for a 1-1 draw even though Sunderland played more than hour with 10 men.

Everton

With 11 points Everton are below half way in the standings and they have lost their last 2 league games, 2-0 at Man City and 3-0 at home to Spurs. They also lost 1-0 at Leeds on the opening weekend and were beaten 2-1 at Anfield in the derby with Liverpool but they did win 3-2 at Wolves.

The Betting

Sunderland are 18/10 with the draw at 21/10 and Everton can be backed at 16/10.

A game of 3 goals or more is priced at around 12/10 and it’s 19/20 for both teams to score.

The Verdict

Go back a decade or so and David Moyes was in charge of a Sunderland squad who were relegated in embarrassing fashion and things got even worse after he departed. The mood around Sunderland now could hardly be any different and I’m surprised they are not clear favourites to win this.

I’m with the home side on the board as my selection. A combination of options I will consider in the ever popular Build A Bet market include:

Sunderland over 1.5 goals at 1.85/1

Anytime goalscorer Enze Le Fee at 5.25/1 (likely to have more of the ball in the final third than he did at Chelsea and is the designated penalty taker and possible from free kicks)

To be shown a card Train Hume at 24/10 (some doubt as to how will line up at the back but if he starts will have Grealish to deal with)

Player shots on target Granit Xhaka, 1 or more at 24/10 (contributes in the final third more than people realize and packs a mean shot, another candidate from set pieces)

Main Bet: Sunderland to win at 18/10 with Sportingbet
