The latest Goodforthegame newsletter penned by @BrentGraham with best bets for the weekend 27th to 29th March including the United Rugby Championship
Those who have followed Goodforthegame and been on my mailing list over the last decade and a half will know that I have had plenty of ups and downs. I cannot recall though a poor run that has come close to what I am going through now – my confidence is shot to the point that I place a bet almost expecting to lose.
The good news is that I have been betting really small which has been out of necessity (growing my own business and cannot afford big hits) and in a way is just as well because if I was firing like the me of 10 years ago I would be in huge trouble.
Give me a Sign, any Sign!
Last week as I was tapping out the newsletter I was looking for a sign as to whether I should give up punting for a while. Backing losers is no fun.
It started to pour and living under 20km from Ellis Park I looked at the points line in the Lions v Edinburgh. It was 53.5 and I thought it had to be the unders.
I had a bet and sent the newsletter and by the time the kickoff came the ground was baked in sunshine and points flowed early – Sign number 1.
With the Lions leading 28-0 for sometime half time was approaching and unders seemed a runner and when the 14 man Lions withstood the Edinburgh attack on their line after the hooter I relaxed and it felt things were turning my way. The Lions though had other ideas and ran the ball from behind their own line to score – 999/1000 times that would have been halftime – Sign number 2.
The unders was dead in the last quarter and sure enough that is when the heavens opened, far too late to help me – Sign number 3.
Unders in Durban – win or take a break
All signs pointed to a lengthy break and that was the idea but then like a typical punter I started looking at this weeks fixtures and eyeing the unders in Durban later tonight.
There was some rain forecast and after I got a voicemail from Oracle saying how humid it was I simply cannot resist one last stand.
Win or lose there will be no newsletter next week as I am away but if it loses I may be out of action for a while or perhaps I will get a guest punter in to share his views and bets while I take a break.
In the URC blog I went under 48.5 but it has gone up to 49.5 since (the bookies probably saw my pick and were happy to stretch LOL) and I am going to go in again.
BET: 2.5 units under 49.5 at 0.88/1 at Pokerbet
This newsletter has always been about me sharing the highs and lows of my punting journey which I feel is at some sort of crossroads at the moment although rest assured I enjoy writing it and being in touch with the GFTG community too much to simply disappear.
There are 3 Super Rugby games tomorrow and you can click here for the betting blog
No acca this week, its unders in Durban or bust!
