The latest Goodforthegame newsletter penned by @BrentGraham with best bets for the weekend 9th, 10th May

I’m hoping last weekend proved to be a genuine turning point in my betting year.

After watching the newsletter Friday double go up in smoke on the Super Rugby, I was feeling pretty despondent. But fortunes can turn quickly in this game and mine certainly did. I went 7 from 7 across the rest of the weekend and, most importantly, managed to land the 18/1 newsletter accumulator.

There was massive drama right at the end of the Bordeaux v Bath clash. Bordeaux were attacking in the final minute and led by 19 points. To land the accumulator I needed Bath to score a converted try and, to make matters even more interesting, I also had Bordeaux 1–12 which required exactly the same thing. I had mentally written it off and almost stopped watching.

Somehow Bordeaux coughed up possession and Bath raced upfield for a late try. The producer showed the conversion from distance and I was convinced it was hooked wide, but fortunately the flags went up. It was a huge swing in my favour and turned what was already a decent weekend into my best one in quite some time.
Most importantly, it also nudged me back ahead of the bookies for 2026!

There is some great sport this weekend including URC, Super Rugby, U20 Rugby Championship, the Giro, PSL, EPL and UFC.

All URC bets will be posted in this blog

THE HANDICAP
I was joined by Mossman on Thursdays show and we got properly stuck into the weekend’s Super Rugby action. Oracle was a late withdrawal through illness, so I handled the URC on my own with plenty of help from the lads in the live chat.
Below are a few shortcuts to the key games:

WEEKEND PLAYS
I held this newsletter back in the hope that the bookmakers would hang a points line in the mid-60s for the Bulls v Zebre clash, but unfortunately they were onto me. The total is currently sitting at around 73.5 or 74.5 depending on where you shop.
That’s probably just a touch too high for me to get heavily involved on the overs, but I’m still going to have a nibble on the game. I’ll be backing Zebre to score the bonus-point try at odds against and if this game opens up in the manner many expect, they should get opportunities.

A 19/1 Rugby Acca!
It is a weekend where I’m not particularly strong on anything, but after last weekend’s success I’m going to throw up a small accumulator and hope we can keep the momentum rolling.

BET: One unit (1-5) at 19/1 at PokerBet

  • Zebre over 3.5 tries at 27/20
  • Sharks v Benneton over 8.5 tries at 0.97/1
  • Lions +12.5 v Leinster at 0.92/1
  • Connacht 1-12 v Munster at 1.36/1 (draw no bet)

There’s definitely an element of feel rather than hard conviction to this one, but hopefully we can sneak another decent-priced multiple home.

Highlights on Goodforthegame

It’s UFC 328 this weekend with Khamzat Chimaev taking on Sean Strickland in what promises to be an explosive clash. And if the pre-fight press conferences are anything to go by, this is not one to miss.
Strickland goes in as a massive underdog and I had to laugh at one of the social media comments after Chimaev  kicked him in the groin at the press conference — “that’s the first clean strike Chimaev has landed in three fights.”

Chris also shares his bets for the weekend’s Indian Premier League action, while the Premier League season is heading towards a thrilling finish and he previews all the weekend’s key matches.

Talking of thrilling finishes, Kaizer Chiefs taking two points off Mamelodi Sundowns in midweek was absolutely massive, and Orlando Pirates are now firmly in the box seat to win the Premier Soccer League title -Saturdays preview here

Enjoy the weekend everyone, aside from all the sport on TV I will also be catching some live schoolboy and club rugby.

Cheers
