Race 1
INSPIRATION found one too good in the form of Play With The Wind over this C&D last time. The daughter of Rafeef is a progressive individual. Richard Fourie is booked to ride and he may be able to get the best out of her where it matters most.
PRINCESS OF ALL finished 1.5 lengths behind TAKING A RISK last time. She is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned.
TAKING A RISK showed speed over 1000m on the Inside course last time, but found one too good in the form of Plumbago Park. She was reported to have cast a shoe in running that day. The daughter of Fire Away is in a good space and she can earn another cheque for her patrons.
Race 2
MAGIC CARPET RIDE is better than her last start in a Conditional Maiden over this C&D. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. Her penultimate run when beaten a short-head at the Vaal, catches the eye. She receives her sex allowance and if putting her best foot forward, she can shed her maiden tag.
WINTER BELLE is better than her last start over 1000m as she was reported to be distressed. She will enjoy the return to 1160m and may be the one to fill the exacta spot.
TROMBOLINES is an unraced son of Querari from the Mike and Mathew de Kock stable with Callan Murray booked to ride. He is related to multiple winners including William Rufus and Pioneer Square. If not in need of the run, he should start his career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to his chances.
Race 3
DELAWARE RIVER challenged strongly over 1450m on the Vaal Classic course last time, but found one too good in the form of Kensal Green. S’manga Khumalo retains the ride, and she jumps from a good draw of four. The daughter of Danon Platina will be mowing down the frontrunners and she can go one better.
AQUARIUS stayed on at the finish when third over 1200m on the Inside course last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. The daughter of Rafeef should love the extra 200m on offer and she is one of the leading contenders.
PALACE SCRIPT has run two fair races to date. The daughter of Futura has scope and jumps from pole position. She would not be a shock winner.
Race 4
This is a competitive Graduation Plate and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is SHADOWFAX from the Sean Tarry stable. He was not disgraced when fourth in the Grade 2 Jackpot City Dingaans. The manner in which he stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. He has cracked a good draw of four and will be doing his best work at the finish.
ONE EYE ON VEGAS was touched off by Miami Mountain over 1160m last time. His penultimate run when fourth in the Grade 3 Betway Graham Beck Stakes catches the eye. The son of Buffalo Bill Cody will love the rise to 1400m and he should pose a threat.
ARISTOTLE is better than his last start in the Grade 2 Allied Steelrode-Onamission Charity Mile as he was reported to be not striding out. He finished second in his only attempt over this C&D. On his previous form, he should be involved at the finish.
Race 5
CLARKSON won a game race over 1450m on the Inside course last time. He received a three-pound penalty for that victory. Muzi Yeni retains the ride from a good draw of two. The 8yo gelding is in a good space and can follow up with another victory.
MONKEY PUZZLE followed up his maiden win with a good second-place finish over this distance at the Vaal. He stayed on at the finish but found one too good in the form of Speedman. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
BUDDY BOY is better than his last start as he was reported to be not striding out. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He is having his first run as a gelding which may have done the trick. The son of What A Winter has plenty of scope and cannot be discounted.
Race 6
CORRUPT was well-beaten into third in the Non-Black Type Racehorse Owners Association Stayers last time. His penultimate run when third in the Listed Allied Steelrode Java Stakes over this C&D was encouraging. His last victory came under Callan Murray. If jumping on terms, he can notch up his third-career victory.
DOUGLAS DRAGON raced from a handy position over 2000m at the Vaal last time before getting outrun late by Dance King. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He has won once, finished second once and third once from as many starts over this distance. Rachel Venniker may be able to get the best out of him where it matters most.
JORDAN is better than his last start as he was reported to be not striding out. The son of Silvano has ability and on best form shown, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 7
AZALEAS FOR ALL finished 2.7 lengths behind ROYAL INVITATION last time. She is 4.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She finished 2.75 lengths behind KEY WORKER in her penultimate run. She is 7.5kgs better off at the weights and that should be enough to turn the form around. The booking of Richard Fourie is a big plus and she may be the one to beat.
ROYAL INVITATION stayed on when fourth over 2000m at the Vaal last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She is in a good space and merits healthy respect.
TEO TORRIATTE is better than her last start in the Listed Allied Steelrode Yellowwood Handicap. Two of her seven career victories have come over this distance. She is likely to race on the pace and may be hard to peg back.
Race 8
CALLMEGETRIX is the best bet on the programme. She found one too good in the form of Atticus Finch in the Grade 2 Allied Steelrode – Onamission Charity Mile last time. The daughter of Vercingetorix jumps from an ideal draw of three and can notch up her seventh-career victory.
SPUMANTE DOLCE is better than her last start in the Grade 1 Betway Summer Cup. She finished 2 lengths behind MINOGUE in her penultimate outing and is 5kgs better off at the weights. That should be enough for the tables to be turned. On best form shown, she should be involved at the finish.
RODEO DRIVE has consistent form lines to her name. She finished 0.7 lengths behind the top choice in her penultimate run. She is 0.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result.
Race 9
SPLITTHEEIGHTS made the natural improvement when winning his maiden over this C&D. He raced from just off the pace, showed a good turn of foot and drew clear of the opposition. The son of Vercingetorix takes on stronger, but he has plenty of scope and should be up to the task at hand.
QUIET WINTER won a good race when shedding her maiden tag over this C&D last time. The daughter of What A Winter takes on stronger, but she carries a handy galloping mass of 54.5kgs. She has plenty of scope and should give a good account of herself.
ANTONIO GAUDI showed pace over 1200m at the Vaal last time, but found one too good in the form of Secret Chord. The son of Erupt is in a good space and merits healthy respect.
Race 10
ABOUND finished 0.3 lengths behind BANYAN last time. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. The son of Time Thief has dropped to a competitive rating and would not be a shock winner.
TOP DIVISION finished 0.1 lengths behind BANYAN in the race referred to above. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish.
BANYAN is lightly raced with good form lines to his credit. He is drawn on the outside of the course which is a big plus. Keagan de Melo rides and he merits obvious consideration
