RACE 1
RED BIRCH may not have seen out the 1400m at this stage of her career last time. Her penultimate run when second over 1000m on this course was encouraging. The daughter of Erik The Red is fitted with cheekpieces which may keep her mind on the task at hand. She should get a good run in transit from Barrier Two and may be the one to side with.
RIVER VIEW showed signs of needing her debut effort over 1000m on this course. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. The daughter of Visionaire would have gained from the experience and should love the rise to 1200m. With the natural improvement that is expected, she should pose a threat.
TP THUNDERCHILD found one too good in the form of New Day last time. She drops back to 1200m and if switching off early, she can finish in the placings.
RACE 2
This is a weak Maiden Plate and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is TASTE THE RAINBOW from the Cliffie Miller stable. He took the lead at the 900m mark last time and stayed on to finish third. He finished third in his penultimate outing over this C&D. The son of Skitt Skizzle is having his peak run and in this type of field, he can shed his maiden tag.
TURBULENT should have finished closer to the winner last time as he hung in badly in the straight. Calvin Habib is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.
KALEESH CYBORG was in need of his local debut over 1300m on this course. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He will strip much fitter and can improve to finish in the placings.
RACE 3
GREEK HEIRESS was her own worst enemy in her local debut as she over raced in the early stages. However, she stayed on at the business end to finish fourth. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. If Muzi Yeni is able to switch her off early, she should be competitive. MADE TO MEASURE stayed on when third over 1400m on this course last time. She was beaten a short-head when second over this C&D in her penultimate outing. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
MONKEY’S WEDDING set the pace over this C&D last time and stayed on to finish second. Chad Little is likely to adopt the same tactics and he should be the first male past the post.
RACE 4
MAKHACHEV tried hard when third over 1800m on this course last time. He has won twice and finished second once from five starts over this C&D. It is encouraging that Muzi Yeni steps back into the saddle and the combination may find themselves in the winner’s enclosure.
JUAN CARLOS finished 1 length behind the top selection last time. He is 0.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result.
HELIOTROPE is a winner of her last two starts. She finished 1.75 lengths behind the top choice, three runs ago. She is 2kgs worse off at the weights today and may battle to turn the form around. She is in a good space and will be looking to bring up the hat-trick.
RACE 5
KINGS AGAIN has good recent form to her name. She ran a creditable race when third in the Non-Black Type East Cape Breeders Stakes last time. The daughter of One World gets the services of 4kgs claiming Apprentice Bongani Makhubo which will assist her cause. If all goes according to plan, she can notch up her fourth-career victory.
MY DEAR FRIEND was outrun late when fourth over 1200m on this course last time. The daughter of Master Of My Fate is drawn widest, but she gets the services of Richard Fourie who will give her all the necessary assistance from the saddle.
CLAIRWOOD ROSE finished 1 length behind the second selection last time. She is 1kg worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result.
Race 6
MERCANTOUR was given a peach of a ride when winning his last start over 1200m on this course. He has won twice and finished third once from as many starts over this C&D. The 6yo gelding is the stable elect with Richard Fourie aboard. He has cracked a good draw of two and may be the one to beat.
ANUSCHKA’S WORLD has good consistent form to his name. He found one too good in the form of Cruise Control over 1000m last time. The son of One World steps up to 1400m and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he should be competitive.
FAIRY KNIGHT finished 1.25 lengths behind the second selection last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today. The son of Global View will be mowing down the frontrunners at the finish.
RACE 7
ARABIAN RED set the pace over 1400m last time and stayed on to finish third. She has won three times and finished third once from eight starts over this C&D. Richard Fourie is likely to use her early gate speed to overcome the awkward draw and the combination may be hard to peg back.
VILA VICOSA ran a good race when second over 1400m on this course last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. If repeating that effort, he should be the first male past the post.
BLACKBERRY BREEZE kept finding to win his last start over this C&D. He received a three-pound penalty for that victory. The son of Silvano is in a good space and merits healthy respect.
RACE 8
WAIT FOR ME was an easy winner when shedding her maiden tag in her local debut over 1200m on this course. She was reported to be cut into and to have spread a shoe that day which makes the victory that much more encouraging. The daughter of Vercingetorix should have no issues with the rise to 1600m. She is in a good space and can follow up.
ENDEARED was touched off in her last start over 1400m on this course. She does carry a big mass of 63kgs but is drawn in pole position, and should produce another honest performance.
ROYAL MERMAID is better than her last start as she was reported to be not striding out. She finished 1.85 lengths behind LANA VIEW in her penultimate run. She is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and should turn the form around
