Race 1
ONE PEPPER did not get the best of starts when finishing second in his last outing over 1200m, when just a neck behind the winner. He has a handy draw three and with Keagan de Melo in the irons, he will get all the neccesary assistance from the saddle.
GOOD OMEN put his disappointing penultimate run behind him when finishing third next time out over 1200m, 1.3L back from the winner. He made good late progress that day and from a wide draw nine, he is likely to be dropped out of it and then start to pick off the frontrunners.
MAJOR LEAGUE has only had two runs to date. He would have come on further and must be included in all bets.
Race 2
WEDDING VOW has won three of her last four starts, the latest over 1200m, albeit by just a neck. She was reported to have been cut into on her left hind, so that effort was even more encouraging. She is drawn wideish in gate eight but will have Gavin Lerena on board to aid her cause.
THOUGHT CONTROL goes for her hat-trick after two victories over 1200m. She gets a useful gate four and the trio is very much on the cards.
GREEK HERITAGE has only had three runs to date. She is drawn one outside the latter and should be a big runner in this line-up.
Race 3
KLEIN KAROO is seldom far off the action, winning four of his last six outings, the latest over 1400m when putting 3.9L between himself and the opposition. From gate six and with Keagan de Melo retaining the ride, he will be looking to secure his fifth career win.
VIKING LEADER goes for a hat-trick after two victories over 1400m. He has pulled a cozy draw two and will have 2.5kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.
FUTURE FLO has finished close-up behind the winner in his last three starts and he should be right up there when they hit the line.
Race 4
The day’s value bet, MASTEROFTHEDESERT made good late progress when finishing fourth last time out over 1400m, 1.3L back from the winner and with 1.5kgs removed from his allocated weight, he looks to be the one to side with here.
MAPHAKA is on a hat-trick after victories over 1400m. Sean Veale partnered him on both occasions and he should get the best out of this gelding once again, jumping from gate five.
LICENCE TO THRILL finished third last time over 1000m, 1.5L off the victor. He battled all the way down to the wire in that contest and if this run hasn’t come too soon, he should turn in another honest performance.
Race 5
RED DAWN finished fifth in his latest start over 1600M, 3.55L back from the winner, but he gets a set of blinkers fitted for the first time and if these have the desired effect, he should be a big runner here.
SLYTHERIN did not quite go on with the effort when ending up in fourth spot over 1400m, 5.3L behind the winner, but now gets a draw three and the services of in-form Keagan de Melo.
TWOCANTANGO chased hard all the way down to the line when finishing fourth in his latest outing over 1600m, 4.65L adrift of the winner. He will have to negotiate a wide gate nine, but will have 1.5kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.
Race 6
RAHHABBA has consistent form lines to her name, finishing third last time over 2000m, 2.25L behind the winner. She drops in trip, but has won twice and finished second in her four runs over this trip, so this shouldn’t be an issue and her gate three will do no harm.
ANOTHER DREAM delivered a powerful finish to win her last start over a mile going away. She has cracked pole position and should be one of the leading contenders.
MISS TWINKLE is unbeaten over this trip. She will have to negotiate a wideish gate seven, but going four out of four is a definite possibility.
Race 7
This looks like a tricky race with plenty of runners in for a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. ZAGREB showed solid improvement to win his last start over 1400m. That was his second win from the four starts he has had in KwaZulu-Natal since arriving from the Western Cape.
NEXT OF KIN won his last start over this C&D with ease and will have the same 2.5kgs claiming apprentice in the saddle here. He has pulled gate two and could emerge as a big threat to the top pick.
GARDENER‘S PRIDE tried to go from jump to wire last time. He is likely to adopt similar tactics today and the drop in trip should be to his liking.
Race 8
DAY TWO is seldom far off the action, finishing fourth last time out over 2000m, 1.1L back from the winner. He finished second in his only attempt over this distance and seems likely to turn in another honest performance.
He renews his rivaly with NO PRESSURE who won that day. The latter goes for his hat-trick but the former is 1.5kgs better off at the weights, which should be enough to turn the form around.
LAST OVATION is a filly taking on the boys. She will have 4kgs taken off her back for her services of her claiming apprentice.
