In this blog we will recap the international fixtures that took place on 8 and 9 November and look at all things betting related for next weekend fixtures which include England v New Zealand.

England my only highlight

Posted 16 Nov 09h26

Saturday was disappointing with the England win my only highlight. Wales were just awful and Australia crumbled like the top tennis biscuit in the 2nd half against Ireland.

My only hope of recovery is the overs in Scotland v Argentina

I am going to get next weeks blog up early as want to cap the games before the bookies.

BET: Wales v Japan

Posted 15 Nov 19h33
3 units Wales over 4.5 tries at 25/20 at Pokerbet

Italy let me down (well done Boks, what a win), but England delivered although the 15+ needed that conversion to land. I simply have to get more involved in this one and actually fancy the Welsh. Backing them to get 5 tries or more - only one beer in, I promise.

BET: A 22/1 speculative double!

Posted 15 Nov 14h30
0.5 unit Eng & NZL equal tries onto IRe & Aus equal tries at 22/1 at Betxchange

The action gets going soon and I am heavily invested in Italy over 17.5. If they get me off to a flyer, I’ll likely be back with more bets, but for now I’ve taken a nibble on England and New Zealand and Australia and India to score the same amount of tries at 22/1 at Betxchange. Enjoy the rugby and play well, I really have a good feeling this week, but history suggests that means very little!

BET: Ireland v Australia

Posted 15 Nov 10h20
4 units Under 47.5 points at 0.93/1 at Betxchange
1 unit Australia win at 3.6/1 at Betxchange

This handicap opened at Australia +13.5 (at least that’s the first line I saw). It was backed into +10.5, went back out to +12.5 on news that Skelton wouldn’t play, and has since come back into +10.5. The points line is 47.5.

There hasn’t been a winning margin of more than 9 points for either team going back nine matches to 2014, and under 47.5 would have arrived in the last five meetings. I like Australia on the handicap and would have loved an Australia +10.5 & under 47.5 combo, but I can’t find one, so instead I’m taking a small interest in the Aussies to win as I really like the side they’ve picked.

With rain around all day, the unders also appeals and is my main bet.

BET: France v Fiji

Posted 15 Nov 09h58
4 units France over 5.5 tries at 0.67/1 at Betway

The handicap has been reasonably steady all week. After opening -22.5, I’m now seeing -23 and -24.5 available on France. The points line is 58.5 and conditions look good.

France’s team points line is 41.5, which, if you assume they kick for the corner rather than take penalties, translates to six converted tries with no room for error. The price is below what I normally like to take, but I’m backing France to score at least six tries at 0.67/1. I may also throw this into a multiple or two.

BET: Wales v Japan

Posted 15 Nov
1 unit Rees-Zammit – 2 or more tries at 4/1 at Pokerbet

This may not be the biggest fixture of the weekend, but it’s one of the most important, with the winner securing the final place in the second tier of seedings for the next Rugby World Cup draw. Wales are –12.5 and although I’m leaning their way, I can’t bring myself to pull the trigger just yet after how poor they were last week.

I may yet get involved in point currently 52.5 (roof closed) but for now it’s a novelty interest on the returning Rees-Zammit, backing him to grab two or more tries at 4/1. If Wales click even marginally better than they did against Argentina, he should get opportunities out wide.

BET: England v New Zealand

Posted 14 Nov 22h37
4 units England to win at 0.93/1 at Betxchange
1 unit England 15+ at 5.8/1 at Betxchange

I was really hoping for an England plus, but the bookies were wide awake to it and England have traded as slight favourites for most of the week. They were impressive against Australia, and while the All Blacks have beaten Ireland and Scotland in successive weeks, I haven’t been overly impressed and I reckon they are there for the taking.

I’m on England to win, and I’m also taking a swing at a big England win. The total points line is 46.5, and with possible rain about (currently forecast after the match), I won’t be getting involved in the points markets at this point.

BET: Italy v South Africa

Posted 14 Nov 17h12
4 units Italy over 17.5 points at 17/20 at Hollywoodbets

This handicap opened at Boks –20.5, edged to –21.5, and has now settled at –18.5 after the team announcements. Italy will be full of confidence after their win over Australia, although historically they’ve often struggled to back up a big performance the following week.

The Springboks, meanwhile, have the luxury of making wholesale changes from the side that won in Paris, yet it’s still a formidable outfit. Conditions look decent enough and the Bok “B team”, for lack of a better phrase, does tend to concede more than the full-strength unit.

With Italy showing good attacking intent and the Boks likely to offer opportunities, I’m backing the hosts to reach 18 points or more.

BET: Scotland v Argentina

Posted 13 Nov 23h45
5 units Over 49.5 points at 17/20 at Pokerbet

This is the final match of the weekend but my first bet, as I feel the market is going to move. Nathan highlighted the over 49.5 on our rugby betting show The Handicap on Thursday night, and there are already signs that this line will edge into the 50s, for now, 49.5 is still available.

Handicap-wise the game opened Scotland -0.5 and is now -3.5, which is pretty much where I capped it (-2.5). With both sides capable of scoring and conceding, and conditions looking decent, I’m getting involved early before the points line shifts.

Autumn Internationals – Weekend Betting Recap

Ireland 41–10 Japan

My Bet: Stockdale first-half try scorer at 2/1 –
Ireland were comfortable without ever fully cutting loose. Stockdale never got the early chance I needed and the 1st-half try angle didn’t land. The damage was small.

Scotland 17–25 New Zealand

My Bet: Taukei’aho last NZ try scorer at 12/1 –
A small speculative interest. The reserve hooker didnt get the late maul opportunity although he was in  position a couple of times. No strong views on the match overall but did have Scotland to win in an acca and when they came back from 0-17 to 17-17 I thought the match was their for the taking.

England 38–18 Fiji

My Bet: England over 40.5 points –
The big frustration of the weekend. England had long spells of pressure but couldnt turn it into points. Overs never looked properly alive and it anchored a couple of multis. The bet was live as the hooter sounded but sadly England elected to kick the ball out.

Italy 26–19 Australia

My Bet: Tribet – Either team by 7 or less at 1.87/1 –
A nice winner. The game always felt set up for a tight one and Italy not only stayed inside the 7 but won outright. A great win for Italy.

France 17–32 South Africa

My Bet: Under 53.5 points –
Spot-on. A high-intensity test where defence and physicality dominated. The Boks were excellent especially given they were down to 14 men for just over 40 minutes and the unders arrived reasonably comfortably.

Wales 28 Argentina 52

My Bet: Wales to win at 3.1/1 –
The less said about this bet the better
