Winning Form selections for racing from Turffontein on Saturday 11th January where there are huge prizes available in the free to enter @Hollywoodbets Punters Challenge
Race 1
ZACATOO has produced two good runs to date. He raced from a prominent position over 800m last time and stayed on to finish third. The son of Act Of War is a progressive type and will love the extra 200m on offer. Unless one of the first timers has plenty of ability, he should find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
PORRIDGE BOY finished 2.75 lengths behind the top choice on debut. The son of Erupt will be at home over the extra 200m. With the natural improvement that is expected, he may be the one to fill the exacta spot.
EASY TIGER is an unraced daughter of Rafeef from the Mike de Kock stable with Muzi Yeni in the saddle. She is related to four-time winner Great Cat. If not too green in running, she should give a good account of herself. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her and the other first timers.
Race 2
FLIGHT OF A CONDOR showed good speed over 1200m at the Vaal last time, before getting outrun late by Ilha Da Orange. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. The daughter of Var is suited to this distance and she can go one better.
ENDIZAYO is better than her last start over 1160m on this course. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. She is better suited to this distance and is one of the leading contenders.
DESERT CLOUD ran a creditable race on debut over this distance at the Vaal. She returns from a 34-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. Gavin Lerena retains the ride and if fit, she should give a good account of herself.
Race 3
Trainer Johan Janse van Vuuren holds a strong hand in this contest and he can saddle the first two past the post. YAMADORI finished 0.25 lengths behind KARANGETANG last time. He is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. Gavin Lerena is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.
KARANGETANG is better than his last start as he was reported to be coughing post-race. He has won once, finished second once and third twice from eight starts over this C&D. On best form shown, he should pose a threat.
JOHNNY APPLESEED was an easy winner of his last start over this distance at the Vaal. He takes on stronger, but has ability and should be up to the task at hand.
Race 4
TEXAS RED stayed on at the finish over this C&D last time, but found one too good in the form of Main Defender. He is having his peak run today and will be cherry-ripe. Kabelo Matsunyane is booked to ride and he may be able to get the best out of him where it matters most.
POMODORO‘S JET was an easy winner of the Non-Black Type WSB Grand Heritage last time. He has won four times, finished second once and third once from as many starts over this distance. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
TRUTH was caught late when second over 1400m last time. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. He is the best weighted runner in this contest and merits healthy respect.
Race 5
SALENIO PENINSULA finished 0.7 lengths behind MISS LIA last time. She is 1kg better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish. She is the stable elect with Gavin Lerena in the saddle and may be the one to side with.
MISS LIA won a good race over 1450m on the Vaal Classic course last time. She finished second in her penultimate run over this C&D. She is in a good space and merits healthy respect.
BAKWENA challenged strongly when second over 1160m on this course last time. She should have no issues with the rise in distance and she should be involved.
Race 6
GREATERIX went way too fast up front in the Grade 2 Betway Dingaans last time and understandably did not go on with the effort. The son of Vercingetorix should be ideally suited to this distance and it is encouraging that Muzi Yeni is back in the saddle. He is a horse loaded with class and should be the one to beat.
COSMIC SPEED won a good race in his seasonal debut over 1160m on this course. He would have come on from the run and should strip fitter. With a bit of luck from his wide draw, he should fight out the finish.
FIRE ATTACK found one too good in the form of Quid Pro Quo last time. The widest draw is an obvious concern, but Diego De Gouveia should give him all the necessary assistance from the saddle.
Race 7
MOUNT PILATUS is a winner of his last two starts, the latest of which was in the Grade 3 New Turf Carriers Merchants. He showed good guts and determination when holding Pistol Pete at bay last time. The son of Pomodoro has won twice, finished second twice and third once from six starts over this C&D. He is in a good space and can bring up the hat-trick.
I AM GIANT was in need of his comeback run over 1000m on this course. He has won once and finished second three times from six starts over this C&D. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter.
CHASING HAPPINESS is a winner of her last three starts. She rallied late when winning the Grade 3 Betway Carry On Alice Stakes last time. She carries a handy galloping mass of 52.5kgs and should give the males a run for their money.
Race 8
RED MAPLE won a good race over this distance at the Vaal last time. Two of his five career victories have come on this course. Serino Moodley retains the ride and against similar company, she should follow up with another victory.
NONE OTHER ran a fair race in the Grade 2 Mike de Kock Ipi Tombe Challenge last time. On best form shown, it would not be a shock to see her in the winner’s enclosure.
SECOND BASE finished 4.2 lengths behind the top selection last time. He is 0.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result. He is having his peak run today and should be cherry-ripe.
Race 9
CYMRIC has good recent form lines to his credit. He showed good speed over 1160m last time, before getting outrun late by Cosmic Speed. The son of Vercingetorix has class about him and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he should notch up his third-career victory.
MOONLIGHT TRADER is better than his last start in the Grade 2 Betway Dingaans. He won a game race in the Grade 3 Betway Graham Beck Stakes in his penultimate run. If putting his best foot forward, he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.
BUSTER BARNES is having his first run for the Mike de Kock stable. He had plenty of success in Zimbabwe for trainer Debbie Swanson. The son of Erupt is at his best over further and the betting market will be the best guide with regards to his chances.
Race 10
ZANTHAR ran a good race when third over 1400m at the Vaal last time. He has won once and finished second once from as many starts over this C&D. The son of New Predator takes a drop in class and with Gavin Lerena in the saddle, he may be the one to beat.
BIG BOY BRUCE found extra when winning his last start over this C&D. He received a three-pound penalty for that victory. He is in a good space and merits healthy respect.
SECRET CHORD won a good race in his last start over this C&D. Muzi Yeni steps back into the saddle and he merits obvious consideration
