He understandably raced green and despite being in a wide position on the turn, he fought hard all the way to the line before getting touched off by Sail The Sky. The son of Canford Cliffs would have gained from the experience and from his good draw of two, he may be the one to side with.
THE GREY KING finished 0.4 lengths behind the top choice last time. The son of Vercingetorix is a progressive type and he is one of the leading contenders.
TENANGO cost himself winning last time as he hung in the closing stages. The son of Canford Cliffs is highly-rated and if keeping on a straight line, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.
Race 2
ICE RAIN made the expected natural improvement when second in her last start over 1400m on this course. She raced from a handy position, tried hard but found one too good in the form of Glee Club. The daughter of Vercingetorix is a progressive type and from her good draw of two, she may be the one to beat.
GIMMETHELIMELIGHT finished 1.25 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result.
PINEAPPLEMINTGREEN got going too late when second in her last start over this C&D. It is encouraging that Aldo Domeyer is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.
Race 3
TWO A PENNY stayed on when fourth over 1600m on this course last time. Her penultimate run when second over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth catches the eye. The daughter of Twice Over is having her peak run today. The 1400m should be right up her alley and from her good draw of three, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.
A THOUSAND KISSES was a beaten odds-on favourite in her last start after an eye-catching debut effort. The daughter of Master Of My Fate is bred to enjoy the rise to 1400m and should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
CHARLENE showed good speed over 1250m last time, but was outrun late. Her penultimate run when second over this C&D, catches the eye. She is likely to use her early gate speed to get across without using up too much energy and she may be hard to peg back.
Race 4
CELTIC CHIEF produced a promising debut effort over 1400m on this course, eight weeks ago. He lost a length at the start, but finished off his race strongly. The son of Vercingetorix would have gained from the experience and will love the extra furlong on offer. He jumps from a good draw of four and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should be hard to beat.
GREENLAND was his own worst enemy last time as he over raced in the early stages and hung in the final 200m. If Grant van Niekerk is able to switch him off early, he should pose a threat.
MONT LOISIR ran a fair race on debut over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. He would have come on from the run and is bred to enjoy the rise to the mile. From his good draw of two, he should be competitive.
Race 5
FAIRE ADVANTAGE finished 1.25 lengths behind RULE OF THUMB last time. He is 2kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. The son of Trippi is having his peak run today and will be cherry-ripe. He is versatile and can return to winning ways.
RULE OF THUMB is a winner of his last two starts over this C&D. He received a four-pound penalty for his last victory. He meets a similar field this afternoon and can notch up the hat-trick.
PREVALENCE is the stable companion of the second choice. He has won once and finished third once from as many starts on this course. He is likely to be settled near the rear of the field and will be mowing down the frontrunners.
Race 6
JERUSALEMA RAIN is having his first run for the Candice Bass-Robinson stable. He stayed on well at the finish in the Non-Black Type Bloodstock SA Sales Cup last time, but found one too good in the form of Main Defender. The son of Captain Of All would have strengthened up during his time off the track. He is the best-weighted runner in this contest and if suited to the course, he should take a power of beating.
HLUHLUWE was caught in the shadow of the post by My Golly Molly in the Grade 3 Langerman last time. The son of Trippi has ability and if keeping on a straight line, he should be the one to fill the exacta spot.
ZOOMIE followed up his maiden win with a good second-place finish. He returns from a 15-week break, during which time he was gelded. If not in need of the run, he should give a good account of himself.
Race 7
GOLDEN HOSTESS ran a fair race in the Grade 1 Ridgemont Garden Province Stakes last time. She returns from a 14-week break which may have done her the world of good. She has won over this distance in the past and races well fresh. Aldo Domeyer steps back into the saddle and she can return to winning ways.
HAPPY CHANCE finished 1.25 lengths behind GIMME’S LASSIE last time. She is 3kgs better off at the weights today which should be enough for the tables to be turned. She would have come on from the outing and should strip much fitter. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
CALA MURETTA won a game race in the Grade 2 Debutante last time. The manner in which she finished off her race that day suggests that she will love the rise to 1400m. She does take on older, but has plenty of ability and can notch up the hat-trick.
Race 8
CHARLES DICKENS makes his seasonal debut after a successful KZN campaign having won the Grade 2 WSB Guineas and the Grade 1 Hollywoodbets Gold Challenge. The 17-week break would have done him the world of good. He is unbeaten from two starts over this distance and he should notch up his ninth career victory.
GIMME A PRINCE should have finished closer in the Grade 1 Mercury Sprint last time. He has won twice and finished second once from as many starts over this distance. He always gives of his best and merits healthy respect.
ROYAL AUSSIE is better than his last start in the Grade 1 Hollywoodbets Gold Challenge. Three of his four career victories have come over this distance. If getting away to a clean start, he can finish in the placings.
Race 9
PONTE PIETRA is a winner of his last three starts in KZN. He took the lead at the 200m mark over 1950m last time and was geared down in the run down to the line. The drop to 1400m is no concern as he is unbeaten from two starts over the distance. He returns from an 11-week break, during which time he was gelded. The son of Vercingetorix clearly has class and should be the one to beat.
ITSRAININGWILLIAM set the pace over 1600m on this course last time, but was caught late by Triple Time. He is likely to race on the speed once again and may be hard to peg back.
KING REGENT won a good race in his last start over 1250m on this course. He received a six-pound penalty for that victory. He finished 1.1 lengths behind the second choice, three runs ago. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights and should finish closer as a result.
Race 10
USA‘S HOPE has decent consistent form lines to his credit. He stayed on when fourth in the Non-Black Type New Turf Carriers eThekwini Sprint last time. He returns from a 12-week break which would have done him the world of good. The son of The United States will be running on and can win a race of this nature.
MEU CAPITANO tried hard in his last start, but found one too good in the form of Mojo Man. The son of Captain Of All looks to have ability and with his handy galloping mass of 55kgs, he should go close to winning.
VELDSKOEN was caught late when second over this C&D last time. He has won once and finished second twice from as many starts over this C&D. He is likely to race on the speed and may be hard to peg back
