Race 1
WITCHWOOD has shown good improvement in her last two starts with the blinkers fitted. She stayed on when second over this distance on the Polytrack last time. She meets the right field and if keeping on a straight line, she should shed her maiden tag.
FIRE PHOENIX finished 0.7 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line.
A TIME TO DANCE finished 4.1 lengths behind the top selection last time. She is 1kg better off at the weights today and she may battle to turn the form around. She tries the blinkers for the first time which should keep her mind on the task at hand.
Race 2
THE QUEEN BEE is one of the better bets on the card. She has produced two good third-place finishes to date. The manner in which she has finished off her races suggests that she will love the rise to 1400m. With a bit of luck from barrier nine, she should find herself in the winner’s enclosure.
SEA OF TEARS is still a maiden after 20 starts. She has fair recent form lines to her name. She has finished third twice from three starts over this distance. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
RIBBONS ‘N FLAGS has produced two moderate efforts to date. She steps up to 1400m and the booking of Piere Strydom is a big plus. The daughter of Flying The Flag has scope and can show improvement.
Race 3
PASSAGE OF POWER ran a good race when third over 1400m on this course last time. He raced from a handy position and stayed on at the finish. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. He has won once and finished second once from as many starts over this C&D. He is in a good space and merits healthy respect.
MUSIC IS LIFE should have finished closer to the winner last time as he had to be switched for running room at the 250m mark. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He is C&D suited and is one of the leading contenders.
ORIENTAL BOUQUET is better than her last start as she was reported to be coughing. She returns from a 13-week break which would have done her the world of good. She gets the services of 4kgs claiming apprentice Kobeli Lihaba on her return and she should give a good account of herself.
Race 4
THE SHEPHERD produced an encouraging debut effort over 1000m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. He returns from an 11-week break, during which time he was gelded. Sovereign State has come out and won twice since. The son of Captain Of All jumps from a handy draw of four and if not too green around the turn, he can improve to win.
EL DRAQUE set the pace over this C&D last time and stayed on to finish second. He is likely to adopt the same tactics from barrier three and should pose a massive threat.
TICKALOX ran a fair race over 1400m on this course last time. The manner in which he finished off his race that day suggests that he should have no issues with the drop to 1200m. With luck in running, he can finish in the placings.
Race 5
SEE IT AGAIN was doing his best work late when second in the Grade 1 HKJC Champions Cup last time. He has won three times and finished second three times from as many starts on this course. This is a prep run for bigger races ahead and he will not be at peak fitness. However, he is the class horse in the race and should be too good.
CAPE EAGLE set the pace over 1900m last time and stayed on strongly to finish third. He has won twice and finished third once from as many starts over this C&D. He is likely to have his own way in front and may be hard to peg back.
QUEUE WING stayed on when 1.3 lengths behind the second choice last time. He is 1kg worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result.
Race 6
EL DANTE found betting support when winning his last start over this C&D. He set the pace, found another kick and won with a ton in hand. He received a seven-pound penalty for that victory. He is drawn widest of all, but gets the services of Piere Strydom who will give him all the necessary assistance from the saddle.
CANFORD ICE followed up his maiden win with a decent third-place finish over this distance on the Polytrack. It must be noted that Sovereign State has come out and won again since. He has plenty of scope and is one of the leading contenders.
SHOEFELLA finished 1.25 lengths behind TEICHMAN last time. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating them at the finish.
Race 7
BOSNAY ran a good race in the Non-Black Type Beach Beauty Mile last time. Despite over racing in the early stages that day, the manner in which she stayed on at the finish was encouraging. The daughter of Potala Palace should have no issues with the rise to 1800m and if Serino Moodley can switch her off early, she can return to winning ways.
DIANA THE HUNTRESS won a game race in her last start over 1750m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. With a bit of luck in running, she can follow up.
SEA GODDESS’ last three starts have been good. She stayed on when third over 1900m on the Polytrack last time. She is at her best on the turf and must be included in all bets.
Race 8
ACCUMULATE showed good improvement in her last start over 1600m on this course. She raced from a handy position and stayed on to finish second. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The daughter of Twice Over will love the rise to 2000m and she should strip much fitter. She is progressive and may be the one to side with.
WESTOCKMARKETBORSE has finished second in her last two starts over 1900m on this course. She meets the right field this afternoon and should be involved in the fight to the finish.
