Race 1
LEAD THE CHARGE won an easy race in his last start over 1200m on this course. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. He won his only attempt over this C&D. The son of Lancaster Bomber is the class horse in this contest and he should take a power of beating.
MASTER CASPER raced from just off the pace over this distance last time but found one too good in the form of Almond Sea. The son of Querari is the best-weighted runner in this contest and should be the one to fill the exacta spot.
TAXI TO THE MOON finished 4.5 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 3kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.
Race 2
WEARINGOFTHEGREEN is an unraced daughter of Kingman from the Mike de Kock stable with Gavin Lerena in the saddle. She does not need to be a stable superstar to win in this field. If not too green, she should start her career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her chances.
POPLAR PARK ran a fair race on debut over this C&D. She found some betting support that day which suggests that she was showing some good work at home. With the natural improvement that is expected, she should be competitive.
STROOPSOET was her own worst enemy over 1450m last time as she over raced in the early stages. The drop to 1200m should suit her well and if finding the form of her penultimate run, she can improve to finish in the placings.
Race 3
INSPECTOR JAMES showed good improvement when second over 1000m on the Standside course last time. He raced from just off the pace and stayed on at the finish. The son of What A Winter is progressive and will love the rise to 1200m. S’manga Khumalo takes the ride and he can go one better.
SUTHERLAND’S last three starts have been good. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. The son of Silvano will be mowing down the frontrunners. TIGER STORM has shown good improvement in each of his outings to date. The son of Rafeef should enjoy the rise to 1200m. He is coming along the right way and should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 4
ROMAN’S REVENGE raced from a handy position over this C&D last time, but was caught late by Order Of Hope. The son of Fire Away meets the right field and if getting his own way in front, he may be hard to peg back.
JAHAM showed good improvement when fourth over 1600m on this course last time. He raced wide in the early stages but stayed on to finish fourth. The son of Kingman should have no issues with the rise to 1800m and he is a threat.
ROYAL MIRACLE finished 4.25 lengths behind the second choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result.
Race 5
TOWERS OF GOLD is lightly raced with good form lines to his credit. He should have finished closer to the winner last time as he hung in the final 400m. The son of Gimmethegreenlight should have no issues with the drop to 1500m and if keeping on a straight line, he should be the one to beat.
GAMER’S last three starts have been decent. He stayed on when fourth over 2000m on this course last time. Raymond Danielson is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.
OBSIDIAN was in need of his debut effort over 1160m on the Standside course. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He should enjoy the rise to 1500m and there should be improvement to come.
Race 6
WHERE’S THE PARTY found betting support when winning the Non-Black Type Betway The Lady’s Stakes last time. She received an eleven-pound penalty for that victory. The daughter of Pathfork is in a good space and she can bring up the hat-trick.
SO SEDUCTIVE fought hard for her last victory over this C&D. The daughter of Vercingetorix is the stable elect with S’manga Khumalo in the saddle. She is likely to race on the speed and may be hard to peg back.
HIERKOMMIEBOKKIE finished 3 lengths behind the second selection last time. She is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.
Race 7
NETTLETON tried hard when second over this C&D last time but found one too good in the form of Turbo Power. She is the stable elect with S’manga Khumalo retaining the ride. The blinkers have been re- fitted and from her good draw of four, she should be involved at the finish.
GOLDEN ASPEN produced a strong finish when third over 1400m at the Vaal last time. She has won once, finished second once and third once from six starts over this C&D. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
LOVEGRASS should have finished closer to the winner last time as she had to be steadied at the 150m mark. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. She is back against her own sex and would not be a shock winner.
Race 8
BARBARESCO is better than his last start in the Grade 1 The HKJC Champions Cup. He has won once, finished second once and third once from as many starts on this course. He won his only attempt over this distance. S’manga Khumalo is booked to ride and if not in need of this outing, he should be too good for this field.
GUY GIBSON ran a fair race in the Listed Betway Spring Spree Stakes last time. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. On best form shown, he should be the one to fill the exacta spot.
SUKHUMVIT is better than her last start over 2000m at the Vaal. She returns from a 19-week break which would have done her the world of good. She does carry a handy galloping mass of 51.5kgs and if not in need of the run, she can give the males a run for their money.
Race 9
WHISPERS OF WAR stayed on when fourth over 1800m on this course last time. He has won once and finished second three times from five starts over this C&D. He takes a drop in class and with the services of 2.5kgs claiming apprentice Trent Mayhew, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
SHINTO SHRINE followed up his maiden victory with a second-place finish over 1500m at the Vaal. He gets the blinkers fitted for the first time which should keep his mind on the task at hand.
CONFEDERATE won a good race when shedding his maiden tag over this distance on the Standside course last time. The son of Fire Away takes on stronger, but he has scope and should give a good account of himself
