Race 1
GOLD AGENT’S last two starts on this course have been good. It must be noted that multiple horses from her last start have come out and won since. The daughter of Gold Standard should love the rise to 1450m and from pole position, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.
HIGGLEDY PIGGLEDY showed good improvement when second in a work riders contest last time. She stayed on at the finish but found one too good in the form of Freedom Square. Muzi Yeni is booked to ride and the combination merit healthy respect.
SILKY JET’S last start can be ignored as she was reported to be not striding out. Her first two career outings in KZN were encouraging. Piere Strydom is booked to ride on her return and if fit, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 2
AGA BOMB ran a fair race on debut over 1160m on the Standside course. She jumped inwards when leaving the start and stayed on to finish fourth. The daughter of Lancaster Bomber would have gained from the experience and should love the rise to 1450m. With the natural improvement that is expected, she should give the males a run for their money.
FEEL ALL RIGHT raced from a handy position over this C&D last time, but was outrun late. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He does have to contend with the widest draw, but he gets the services of Gavin Lerena who will give him all the necessary assistance from the saddle.
CHIEFTAIN’S SHIELD is an unraced son of Vercingetorix from the Mike de Kock stable with Marco van Rensburg up. If not in need of this outing, he should give a good account of himself. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to his chances.
Race 3
BILLY BOWLEGS’ last effort in the Grade 1 Betway Summer Cup can be ignored as he was reported to be not striding out. He returns from a 14-week break, during which time he was gelded. The son of The United States is the class horse in this race and if not in need of the outing, he should notch up his fourth-career victory.
PYROMANIAC is better than his last two starts. It must be noted that the horse that finished second in his last outing has come out and won since. He won his only attempt on this course and cannot be ignored.
GIMME A SHOT returns from the Western Cape. She has won once and finished third once from three starts on this course. On best form shown, she should give the males a run for their money.
Race 4
TYRCONNELL ran a great race when second in his first run out of the maidens over 1400m on the Standside course. The son of The United States has plenty of ability and will love the rise to the mile. From his good draw of two, he may be the one to side with.
CHAMPION WARRIOR showed good improvement in his last start over 1160m. He was running on well at the finish that day. He is having his peak run and with Piere Strydom in the saddle, he should pose a massive threat to the top choice.
BLOOMINGTON has fair recent form lines to his name. Four of his five career victories have come on this course. With a bit of luck from his awkward draw of nine, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 5
MAGICAL FLIGHT set her own fractions up front over this distance on the Standside course last time and kept finding to hold all challengers at bay. She has won once, finished second once and third once from as many starts over this C&D. Serino Moodley is likely to adopt the same tactics and she may be hard to peg back.
ELEMBEE finished 0.2 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair in the run down to the line.
LADY FALLON stayed on when fourth over 1450m on the Vaal Classic course last time. On her best form shown, she should be involved in the fight to the finish.
Race 6
POORLITTLERICHGIRL stayed on nicely when third over this distance on the Vaal Classic course last time. She has won twice and finished third once from as many starts over this distance. The tongue-tie seems to have done the trick on the daughter of Dynasty. She jumps from a good draw of two and should give the males a run for their money.
ARLINGTON ACTION stayed on when third over 2000m on this course last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. Should the top choice fluff her lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
DUBAI HILLS was an easy winner of his last start over this C&D. He received a five-pound penalty for that victory. He meets a similar line-up this afternoon and can follow up.
Race 7
KUDZU is better than his last start on the Standside course. It must be noted that Royal Mazarin has come out and won again since. The son of Flower Alley produced good form lines prior to that outing and from his good draw of three, he may be the one to side with.
COPPER JOHN’S last start can be ignored as he was reported to be changing strides. He finished 1.35 lengths behind the top choice in his penultimate run. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.
DIMAKO’S JET won a good race when shedding her maiden tag over 1400m on the Standside course last time. The daughter of Ideal World takes on stronger but she has plenty of scope and should be up to the task at hand.
Race 8
LADY CRUSADE finished 1.7 lengths behind IN THE ETHER last time. She is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She has plenty of scope and may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.
IN THE ETHER ran on powerfully to win her last start over this C&D. She is clearly in a good space and merits healthy respect. She is carded to race on 22 February 2024 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.
PALACE REVOLT has been taking on stronger in his last three starts. The drop to the minimum trip may suit him well. He drops in the ratings and may be the first male past the post.
Race 9
MOUNT PILATUS has decent consistent form lines to his credit. He stayed on when third over 1160m on the Standside course last time. He jumps from a good draw of four and if not too far out of his ground turning for home, he can notch up his second-career victory.
SILVER TUDOR finished 0.25 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the finish.
TCHAIKOVSKY stayed on when third over 1450m on this course last time. If repeating that effort in this line-up, he should earn another cheque for his patrons.
Race 10
TWICE THE STORM was doing his best work at the finish when third over 1160m on the Standside course last time. The son of Twice Over should have no issues with the rise to 1450m. He has dropped to a competitive rating and can return to winning ways in this line-up.
RUN FOR COVER finished 2 lengths behind CIRCUS LIGHTS last time. He is 3.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He has won once and finished second once from as many starts over this distance. From pole position, he is one of the leading contenders.
MAJESTIC PALACE took on stronger in his post maiden run. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. He has scope and with luck in running, he can show
