RACE 1
FANTASY GIRL made the expected natural improvement when second in her last start over 1200m on the turf. She was awkwardly placed at the 1000m mark that day and cast a shoe in running which didn’t help her chances. The daughter of Global View is a progressive type and should love the rise to 1400m. If suited to the polytrack, she may be the one to beat.
QUEEN OF JAZZ’S last three starts have been good. She set the pace over this C&D last time and fought hard all the way to the line. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
DOUBLE TRADE finished 2.25 lengths behind the second selection last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result. She is a progressive type and can finish in the placings.
RACE 2
MARQUEZ returns from a 27-week break and is having his first run for the Alan Greeff stable. He showed good improvement in his last start over 1160m at Turffontein. The son of Rafeef has scope and if not in need of this run, he can shed his maiden tag in this field.
SWISS WALT raced from just off the pace last time, but found one too good in the form of Aquila Gold. He has finished third four times from as many starts over this C&D. He is carded to race on 10 May 2024 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.
HAT HOT HAT over raced over 1400m last time and did not go on with the effort. He will enjoy the drop to 1200m and from pole position, he is capable of causing the upset.
RACE 3
COLONEL GREEN showed good improvement in his local debut over 1200m on the turf. He lost a length at the start, but the manner in which he finished off his race was eye-catching. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. The son of Gimmethegreenlight may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
STORM BOULEVARD produced a typical second run after a rest last time. He is having his first run for the Kelly Mitchley stable. S’manga Khumalo is likely to use his early gate speed to overcome the awkward draw of eight and he may be hard to peg back.
MAYOR OF MERRIVALE is having his first run for the Juan Nel stable. He has finished third three times from as many starts over this distance. He jumps from pole position and if settled into his new surroundings, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
RACE 4
MEETATTHEWINDSOR raced from a handy position over this distance on the turf last time, fought hard but found one too good in the form of Pedro. He has won twice and finished second once from six starts over this distance. The son of Pomodoro can go one better.
HEKNOWS finished 6.5 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result. He won his maiden over this C&D and is the stable elect with Craig Zackey in the saddle.
REACH FORTHE STARS is the stable companion of the second choice. He should have finished closer to the winner last time as the saddle slipped in running. He has won once and finished second once from as many starts over this C&D. He jumps from a good draw of three and must be included in all bets.
Race 5
GIDEON’S DAUGHTER has good consistent form lines to her credit. She was running on when second in the Derby Plate last time. She has won twice, finished second twice and third once from six starts on this course. The daughter of Skitt Skizzle takes a drop in class and she can notch up her third-career victory.
ST CLOUD stayed on when fifth in her last start over 2000m on the turf. She has won once and finished second once from four starts over this C&D. She is likely to be settled near the rear of the field from her wide draw and will be mowing down the frontrunners.
AERIAL VIEW ran a fair race in her last start over 1600m on this course. She has won twice and finished third once from six starts over this distance. If putting her best foot forward, she should be involved at the finish.
Race 6
MAGDALA showed plenty of speed when winning her maiden over this distance on the turf. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. The daughter of Canford Cliffs takes on stronger and older, but she has plenty of scope. She is likely to race on the speed and may be hard to peg back.
SI GIOCA was running on when second over this C&D last time. If not too far out of her ground turning for home, she should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.
GLOBAL GODDESS should have finished closer to the winner last time as she was switched for galloping room at the 200m mark. Apprentice Nirvan Nastili takes the 4kgs off her back and she can finish in the placings.
RACE 7
GIMME’S LADDIE ran on well when winning his local debut over this C&D. The son of Gimmethegreenlight received a three-pound penalty for that victory. He meets similar opposition this afternoon and can follow up with another victory.
COOL WINTER is better than his last start in the Non-Black Type Fairview Flying Five. It must be noted that Cruise Control has come out and won again since. He drops back in class and with a bit of luck from the widest draw, he should pose a threat.
TRANSACT raced from a handy position last time, but was caught late by Timbavati River. All three of his career victories have come over this distance and he must be included in all bets.
RACE 8
ON THE ROAD AGAIN ran on from last when second in his last start over 1200m on this course. He has won once and finished second once from four starts over this C&D. He meets a similar field this afternoon and if not too far out of his ground turning for home, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
MAKHACHEV ran a fair race over 1600m on this course last time. S’manga Khumalo steps into the saddle and he should be one of the leading contenders.
TIMBAVATI RIVER won a good race in his last start over this C&D. He received a four-pound penalty for that victory. He is in a good space and should go close to winning.
