Race 1
HEAD GIRL has finished second in her last two starts, the latest of which was over this C&D. She showed good speed last time and stayed on at the finish. The 12-week break may have done her the world of good. If not in need of the run, she can win a race of this nature.
EMERALD GREEN stayed on when sixth over 1600m on the turf last time. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight should have no issues with the drop to 1000m. Richard Fourie is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.
TOGETHER AGAIN hails from the visiting Fanie Bronkhorst stable. She has fair recent form lines to her name. The booking of S’manga Khumalo is a big plus. She is carded to race on 07 March 2024 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.
Race 2
PLAY WITH FIRE has finished second in her last three starts on the Highveld. She should have finished closer to the winner last time as she over raced in the early stages and hung up the straight. The daughter of Master Of My Fate meets the right field and if suited to the surface, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.
FLORAL FANTASY finished 0.6 lengths behind JOAN THE WAD last time. She is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She is a progressive type and is one of the leading contenders.
JOAN THE WAD showed no interest in her last start and the stable have opted to fit her with the blinkers. She is a better horse on the polytrack and with luck in running, she may be the one to cause the upset.
Race 3
EL REY VIENE produced a good comeback run when second over 1600m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville last time. The manner in which he stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. He has won once and finished third twice from as many starts over this distance. He will strip a much fitter horse and can notch up his third-career victory.
MADISON VALLEY followed up his maiden victory with a good second- place finish over 1600m on this course. He was running on nicely at the finish that day. The son of Mambo In Seattle will love the rise to 1800m and he has plenty of scope.
STRAIGHT UP stayed on when fourth over this C&D last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He will strip much fitter and merits healthy respect.
Race 4
WYATT’S CHOICE caught the eye when sixth in his post maiden effort over 1600m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. He lost a length leaving the start, was settled near the rear of the field from a wide draw and finished off his race well. The son of Global View will love the rise to 1800m. If suited to the polytrack surface, he may be the one to beat.
EVENTIDOR finished 0.35 lengths behind LUCRETIUS last time. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today. He finished 0.25 lengths behind FINE ADMIRAL three runs ago. He is 4.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. The 5yo gelding may be the one to cause the upset.
LUCRETIUS should have finished closer to the winner last time as he had to be switched at the 250m mark. If getting away to a clean start, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 5
CUPID’S SONG was given a peach of a ride when winning his last start over 1400m on this course. The 6yo gelding should enjoy the step up to the mile. His last two victories have come under Richard Fourie. He jumps from pole position and can follow up.
RODRIGUEZ has decent recent form lines to his credit. If getting away to a clean start from draw four, he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.
FUTURE OF ENERGY followed up his maiden victory with a good second-place finish over 1400m on this course. The manner in which he ran on at the finish that day was eye-catching. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. With luck from the widest draw, he should be competitive.
Race 6
SPRING KISS raced from a handy position over this C&D last time, moved up and held on where it matters most. She received a four-pound penalty for that victory. The daughter of Querari meets a similar line-up this afternoon and she can follow up.
OH SO SQUISHY showed very good improvement in her last start over this distance at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. She takes on weaker company this afternoon and if confirming her recent improvement, she should pose a threat.
PRETTY ANALIA finished 0.4 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 1kg better off at the weights today which is enough to turn the form around, but the widest draw is an obvious concern.
Race 7
WYZEACT took on a competitive field in the Grade 3 Betway National Currency Stakes last time. He has finished second twice from three starts over this distance. The son of Act Of War takes on weaker company this afternoon and if suited to this surface, he can return to winning ways.
RALPH THE RASCAL stayed on when third over 1600m on this course last time. Four of his five career victories have come over this C&D. He carries a handy galloping mass of 54.5kgs and from his good draw of two, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
SLEEK AS SILK won a good race in her last start over this C&D. She received a seven-pound penalty for that victory. She is in a good space and merits healthy respect.
Race 8
PURPLE OPERATOR should have finished closer to the winner last time as he had to switch for running room at the 300m mark. He has won twice, finished second five times and third once from ten starts over this C&D. He takes a slight drop-in class and from his good draw of three, he may be the one to side with.
KNIGHT WARRIOR won a good race in his last start over this C&D. He does have another wide draw to overcome but Muzi Yeni retains the ride and he should give him all the necessary assistance from the saddle.
PHAKA IMALI finished 1.5 lengths behind the second choice last time. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish
